Paint Nature's Palette - A Charlotte Mason Nature Study by Heart of Dakota

Paint Nature’s Palette – A Charlotte Mason Nature Study by Heart of Dakota

A delicate daisy… an imperial moth… a praying mantis… a great horned owl – each incredible part of God’s Creation provides inspiration! A stroll through nature causes us to slow our busy pace, to pause, and to linger. This is why Nature Study is such a special part of a Christian, Charlotte Mason-inspired homeschool education!

In response to God the Creator’s handiwork, singers sing… composers compose… artists paint… and poets write. Even if you or your children aren’t particularly gifted in painting, who wouldn’t love to enjoy a nature study in response to God’s beautiful creation? Well, our Paint Nature’s Palette study helps you do just that!

What makes Paint Nature’s Palette special?

Paint Nature’s Palette combines poetry and painting for a one-of-a-kind approach to nature study! Designed to accompany the “Nature Painting” plans in Missions to Modern Marvels, this beautiful notebook provides scenic poetry from classic poets, vivid photographs of woodland wildlife and botanicals, and a place to showcase student’s completed watercolor paintings.

Each lesson in Paint Nature’s Palette introduces a new poem about the great outdoors. These poems correspond with the animals and plants students are painting each week in Watercolor in Nature. As students paint a daisy, an imperial moth, a great horned owl, a swallowtail butterfly, a red salamander, and more, they will gain a fresh appreciation of nature.

This product highlights nature-themed poetry by classic poets such as…

  • William Wordsworth
  • Emily Dickinson
  • Robert Frost
  • Rudyard Kipling
  • Edna St. Vincent Millay

Charlotte Mason herself would surely have loved this study!

Why did Carrie and her son create this?

Heart of Dakota author Carrie Austin and her son, Shaw, worked together to bring you this nature study. Their goal was to provide excellent means for child after child to better “Paint Nature’s Palette”! They wanted you to explore God’s Creation, to read classic poetry about the great outdoors, and ultimately to be inspired to keep your own nature notebooks!

Each nature-themed poetry and painting lesson was uniquely created to bring out the nature lover in each of us. Children learn to sketch and paint with nature illustrator Rosalie Haizlett as their guide in Watercolor in Nature. Alongside these beginner-friendly step-by-step tutorials on painting, Rosalie shares her very own nature journal entries that are sure to inspire!

Using Rosalie’s nature journal as a model, children will create their very own Charlotte Mason-style nature journals. Rosalie’s illustrations, descriptions, photographs, and paintings provide encouragement, while Paint Nature’s Palette provides classical poetry, vivid nature photographs, and a keepsake notebook to house their own paintings!

How does Paint Nature’s Palette work in Heart of Dakota?

This one-of-a-kind approach to nature study specifically accompanies the “Nature Painting” plans in Missions to Modern Marvels. Two days in each unit focus on nature painting and poetry using lessons from Watercolor in Nature combined with Paint Nature’s Palette.

Watercolor in Nature utilizes beginner-friendly projects to help students learn to sketch and paint. Throughout the lessons, illustrator Rosalie Haizlett shares insights and step-by-step tutorials on painting the natural world. Packed with colorful illustrations, inspirational descriptions, photographs, and copies of Haizlett’s own paintings, Watercolor in Nature is a joy to use!

Celebrate God’s beautiful creation with poetry and painting! Give children a keepsake Paint Nature’s Palette notebook of their own creation to cherish for years to come! With Missions to Modern Marvel’s unique combination of resources, students will find themselves creating their own Charlotte Mason-style nature watercolors in no time!
