Days It’s On: Days 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5
Description: LHFHG’s Bible Study teaches Biblical values to children ages five to seven. First, children hear God’s Word and second, they “hide it in their hearts”. This parent-led Bible Study includes reading and discussion of key Bible verses, Scripture memorization exercises, corresponding music, Scripture Memory Cards, and heartfelt devotions. The Bible Study plans also coordinate with the history theme.
A Handy How-To
Any Bible can be used for LHFHG’s Bible Study! This lets you choose the Bible you like best. Each week, a new memory verse is introduced. Verses include a practical meaning and also reinforce God’s plan through history. Each day, children practice their verse in a fun, interactive way. These follow-ups not only aid in understanding and memorization of the verse – they also encourage mind/whole body connections.
Specially-created, two-sided Scripture Memory Cards correspond with the verses. The front of each card provides a fun picture to help children visualize the meaning of the verse. Portions of each picture are left black-and-white, so children can color them. The back of each card presents a colorful, easy-to-read rendition of the verse for kids to refer as they commit it to memory.
Steve Green’s Hide ‘Em in Your Heart musical selections correspond with the Bible memory verses on the Scripture Memory Cards. These catchy, original songs help little ones memorize their verses and sing praises to the Lord too! They come in a download format, and you can always access them in your Heart of Dakota account.
Finally, one or more day(s) each week parents enjoy reading aloud a devotional connection from The Magnificent Names of Jesus. This special prayer guide explores 37 memorable names for Jesus. Each short chapter focuses on one name and offers a modern-day explanation, Scripture, and name-focused prayer. Heart-warming illustrations further convey the message and meaning of each name.
Box Specific Notes
Since this Bible Study links to the history, I read the history prior to doing the Bible Study. The Bible Study need not be done directly after the history reading, as the rotating box of plans works well after that. I just liked to do the Bible Study “some time” after the history reading.
We enjoyed using the Adventure Bible. This Bible comes in many versions, and it works well up to about age 11. We highlighted each memory verse. After a handful of years of Bible Study in Heart of Dakota, my sons loved paging through their Bibles and seeing all the verses they’d committed to memory.
The interactive follow-ups were so fun that I often let my little ones keep doing them.. Throwing a pair of socks into a basket and saying their Bible verse, using a stuffed animal to “act” out the verse, tossing a Kleenex or scarf in the air and trying to say the verse before it hit the floor – very fun! While my little ones kept up this activity, I taught another child. Super helpful!
The Scripture Memory Cards make coloring easy. The portion kiddos color fits their budding fine motor skills well. Little ones really attach to their cards, just like they do to their Bibles, and I love they become “keepsakes” of the year.
Marching around while we sang Steve Green’s music was fun! Or, playing the music while my kiddos had their snack was fun too. Finally, I liked to tuck my little one under my arm or under a cozy blanket right next to me as I read aloud the devotion. Sitting on the couch and having the book open between us encouraged my little one to focus, follow along, and visualize the devotion by looking at the illustrations.
