Heart of Dakota - A Look Inside - State Study - A Grand Tour of the United States of America

State Study – A Grand Tour of the United States of America

Today’s children might know the state they live in well, but how well do they know the other 49 states? The United States of America contains 50 incredible states that could not be more different from one another! Each beautiful state has something new to offer, and our children truly do need to know their country – all of their country!

From beautiful spacious skies to amber waves of grain, from purple mountain majesties to fruited plains – if a person were to travel America from sea to shining sea, each state would offer a new and exciting adventure.

So, why not inspire our children to “meet” each state, one state at a time? Well, Heart of Dakota brings you this extraordinary State Study to do just that! Be sure to read to the end, so you can see the “Look Inside” pictures for each resource!

What makes this State Study special?

A unique combination of resources makes this State Study a road trip to remember! The Desk Atlas of the United States is an over-sized book that would look right at home on your coffee table! Each state has its own glossy, expansive full-color two-page spread. Beautiful pictures, photos, and hand-drawn postcards give this Atlas a scrapbook-look that is endearing. Meet the “Famous Folks”, trek through “Notable Events” and “State Highlights”, and travel to the best “Places to Visit”! Check out each state’s climate, geography, quarter, flag, seal, motto, symbol, and historical events. This desk atlas tells the story of each state of America with flare!

Discover the heritage of each state with the Children’s Atlas of the U.S.A.! This over-sized Master Book shows God’s hand in building this nation! Few children in America know each state’s Preamble acknowledges God, but yours will! In addition to the Preambles, this awe-inspiring atlas shares each state’s cultures, traditions, natural wonders, history makers, history markers, science, technology, economic resources, explorations, and industries. Full-color photographs and witty trivia make each state come alive! Add statehood dates, capital cities, state flowers, birds, nicknames… and you have the perfect roadside companion for this State Study!

Complete and collect Heart of Dakota’s specially-created Scenic State Postcards! Log what you learn as you discover each state and collect all 50 postcards by the end! Each beautiful postcard showcases a breathtaking location unique to the state, along with the state’s name and rank. Log the state’s admission date and nickname and flip it over! On the back, label each lovely state bird, tree, and flower pictures, and reference the rest of the card for the state’s abbreviation, location, and region. Log the state motto, capital, region, area, and population. As you say farewell to each state, share what YOU found most memorable in the “Research Topic” section!

Why did Carrie create this?

Heart of Dakota author Carrie Austin, M.Ed. carefully chose only the best resources for this incredible State Study! First, her goal was to provide excellent means for children to be able to fully understand and appreciate the U.S.A. in a more meaningful, memorable way.

Second, her Revival to Revolution guide coordinates these resources with plans that offer a one-of-a-kind look at the fabric of America, taking students on a journey that highlights each of the fifty states.

Third, as students travel through this State Study, they will learn about the heritage of each state. They will uncover the history of each state and discover what makes each state unique. Best of all, they will log interesting facts on Heart of Dakota’s own specially-created Scenic State Postcards”!

Finally, these carefully chosen resources provide a unique combination that practically guarantees kids will have a lasting love of America! Students travel the country, one state a time, and create and collect a keepsake postcard for each state. Perhaps most importantly, they see how God’s plan to build our nation unfolded over time, state by state.

How does this State Study work in Heart of Dakota?

Three days in each unit are scheduled within Revival to Revolution for students to complete a study of the fifty states using the Children’s Atlas of the U.S.A., Desk Atlas of the United States, and State Study Road Trip: 50 Scenic State Postcards. Students will also need the state maps included in the 2-book set of Map Trek Outlines and Map Trek Atlas to complete the study. The Map Trek books are part of the Economy Package needed for use with Revival to Revolution. This course provides a visually appealing overview of the building of our nation, state by state.

All information needed to fill in corresponding Map Trek state maps and Scenic State Postcards is provided in the Children’s Atlas of the U.S.A. and the Desk Atlas of the United States. By the time students finish their state study, they will have collected a postcard for each state. You may wish to display these full-color postcards in a three-ring binder with clear two-pocket photo page protectors that fit two 5”x 7” cards per page.

Finally, let’s take “a look inside” these resources!

Worried about having the right resources? Well, no need to worry! For ease of use, Heart of Dakota carries all of the necessary State Study resources! Click here to see the package they are a part of and click “view details” for the last five State Study resources for individual descriptions!

As you ponder the significance of your children doing a State Study, I ask you this… How can we teach our children to pray for our country, if our children don’t know anything about it? Now more than ever, we need to pray for America! May God shed His grace on thee. May He crown thy good with brotherhood. And may our children know all they can about this great and beautiful country God has given us! So, why not get started today!

    Hello!
Prepping for my sixth (and last) child to begin Rev to Rev this fall. I can’t find the “50 States Under God” for purchase. How do you recommend bridging this missing resource? I can’t buy all new materials for one student.
    Thanks for the assistance.

Hello! I am not sure when you purchased your Revival to Revolution guide from Heart of Dakota, but the most recent copyright date is 2024. It is has been updated significantly in the following ways…

    From the Economy Package…
    Revival to Revolution Teacher’s Guide
    The Signers (replaces July 4th…)
Renewal: The Church That Expands Outward (901CX) (replaces Hearts and Hands, which is out of print)

New Composer Study (replaces Composers Hands-On Activity Pak), we will still use The Story of Classical Music (4-CD Set)

New State Study with 3 resources: Children’s Atlas of the USA (901P1), Desk Atlas of the United States (901P2), and RevtoRev New State Cards (901P3) (consumable, 1 per student); these replace the old Fifty States Under God resource

    Scripture Cards: Hebrews 11:1 – 12:3 (901R)

    From the Add-On Package…
Map Trek Atlas (801H1) (full-color maps) and Map Trek Outlines (801H2) (black-and-white maps for students to fill out, one per student or permission to copy for family’s use in home); these are used with 3 of our guides (Resurrection to Reformation, Revival to Revolution, and Missions to Modern Marvels); there will no longer be CDs to print from

For Composition (in Language Arts part of the plans)
Fairy Tales (903J) (replaces The Exciting World of Creative Writing)

For Science, a new Inventor Study (6 new books and an Inventors and Innovators Scrapbook); still use the following: Michael Faraday, Henry Ford, Always Inventing, The Wright Brothers, Exploration Education
    New Science Resources:
Inventors and Scientists (908L) (replaces Four American Inventors)
The Story of Inventions (908M) (replaces The Story of Inventions; though they share the same title, they are two totally different books)
    Who Was Levi Strauss? (908N)
    Chocolate By Hershey (908O)
Out of Darkness: The Story of Louis Braille (908P)
    Who Was Nikola Tesla? (908Q)
Inventors and Innovators Cards and Scrapbook (908R) (replaces the Inventor Notebook)

I believe that would be everything that is different, but please do look this over to be sure! You can certainly call with questions as well. I would be happy to help!

A new guide would be necessary to have the plans, but we do have the Half-Off Guide Exchange available year-round. To take advantage of this, in your online order notes section, just tell us when you purchased your guide from Heart of Dakota and order your new guide and any updated items needed. The warehouse will include a prepaid return label to ship your old guide back at HOD’s expense. Once received, 50% of they new guide will be credited back to your form of payment, so you get the new guide for half-off.

    In Christ,
    Julie Grosz, M.Ed.
