This “Inside the Guide” series provides a quick snapshot of Little Hands to Heaven (LHTH)! It’s a handy “how-to” reference, just one box of plans at a time. Have you ordered Little Hands to Heaven from Heart of Dakota? Thank you – so fun! Are you getting excited to start? Totally understandable! Well, here’s your quick-start “Inside the Guide” for…LHTH’s Bible Story box of plans!
Quick Start Info
Time It Takes: 5 minutes
Days It’s On: Days 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5
Description: Bible Stories help children see God’s awesome plan for mankind! Each weekly unit has a theme centered around Bible characters. The themes are organized in chronological order from Creation through Paul’s missionary journeys. Bible stories related to the theme are read aloud by the parent to the child each day. These stories provide the focus for the day’s plans. All the rest of the daily boxes of plans are linked to the Bible Stories.
A Handy How-To
Choose from one of three Bible Story read aloud options. A Child’s First Bible works well for wiggly little ones ages two to three. Two brightly-colored pages with multiple illustrations and one follow-up question make this Bible just right for little ones. The New Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes fits children ages three to five better. A bigger paragraph to read, one focal illustration, two to four follow-up questions, and a short prayer make this beautiful Bible a little more “grown-up”. Reading directly from a Bible of your own works well if you’re on a tight budget. The LHTH Bible Story plans list daily Scripture you can read.
On a side note, I love reading Scripture directly from the Bible; however, the pictures provided in the children’s Bibles help my little one focus better. The provided question(s) in the children’s Bibles show if my little one understood the story. Plus, the Bible IS the history focus for LHTH. So, for these reasons, I’d recommend using one of the two children’s Bibles if possible. They’re in a handy dandy package anyway, and the package savings make the children’s Bible practically free!
Box Specific Notes
I love to start my homeschool day for my little one by reading the LHTH Bible Story! We read the story on the living room couch. I like to tuck my little one under my arm or under a cozy blanket right next to me. Having the book open between us encourages my little one to focus, follow along, and visualize the story by looking at the illustrations.
After reading the story, I ask the question(s) in the Bible. Little ones may or may not do well with answering, especially at first! Just help out as needed by pointing to the pictures or by sharing your thoughts to guide them. Finally, pray the prayer out loud if you are using A New Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes. I like to bow my head and fold my hands and have my little one do the same.
After our Bible Study, we are ready to get up and move! Either the Bible Activity or the Fingerplay work well next, as they involve movement and link to the story. Since the Letter Activity uses the main line, letter sound, and hand motion from the Fingerplay, it’s best paired with the Fingerplay. So, a winning order to do these boxes in might be Bible Story, Bible Activity, Fingerplay, Letter Activity!
