Good Dog, Carl
Good Dog, Carl begins with mother telling Carl, “Look after the baby, Carl. I’ll be back shortly.”
Carl is baby’s best friend and everyone’s favorite Rottweiler, but can he take care of baby? Baby takes great delight and giggles at every way Carl entertains.
The two besties jump on the bed, play dress-up with mama’s jewelry, and take a harrowing trip down the laundry chute.
Where Carl goes, baby goes, and good-natured curiosity and adventure abounds!
- Alexandra Day is the author of all the beloved Carl books. She was born in 1941 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to a large and close-knit family. Painting was a popular family recreation. In fact, almost every family excursion included one or more easels and a variety of sketch pads.
- For four years, the family lived on a hundred-acre farm in Kentucky. Here she grew especially fond of riding and training horses. She also became a dog owner for the first time. Living in the country also provided plenty of time for reading, a life-long passion.
- About her work the author says: “I think that one of the reasons my illustrations have appealed to people is that they can sense my sincerity… Marvels exist which are just outside our ordinary experience, but at any moment we may turn a corner and encounter one of them. Children also believe this, and because they and I have this conviction in common, we, as creator and audience, make good partners.”
