Carrying on the Tradition of Homeschooling
Do you hope your children will carry on the tradition of homeschooling? I know I do! I realize whether or not this happens hinges on things out of my control. God has a plan for my children’s future, and it is a good plan. He also knows whom each of my sons will marry. Each future couple will have to decide together what schooling is best for their children, and that won’t be my decision. I respect that. However, if I am honest, it is my heart’s desire that my future grandchildren will be homeschooled. Moreover though, I hope my future grandchildren will be schooled in a Christian setting with Christ-centered learning. This is a prayer I can pray now, and I do!
A Happy Tradition
How do your children perceive their homeschooling? How do you perceive your homeschooling? One thing I have always wanted to have is a happy home. I want our sons to remember their home as being a happy place to be.
Now, can every single moment be happy? No. It can’t. There will be subjects, assignments, projects, and skills that are harder for each child. When children have to work harder at something they are not naturally gifted at doing, total joy will probably not be their response. There will also be chores and work to be done. That is part of being a productive family member in the home, and total joy is not always going to be the response. However, the general tone and mood of the home can be happy. Happy people make a happy home.
So, smile, laugh, hug, and speak positively of homeschooling! When things go wrong, and they will, pray about it. Take calm action and fix whatever went wrong as soon as possible. Give grace! Receive grace! No one is perfect. No day is perfect. But, choose joy in your homeschooling, and you will leave a lasting impression upon your children that homeschooling is indeed a happy tradition!
Pray About Your Children’s Current and Future Faith
One of the primary reasons we chose to homeschool is because of our Christian faith. Our homeschooling with Heart of Dakota is Christ-centered. Every day our children use their Bibles for virtually every single subject area. We have had countless talks about our faith. We’ve sang hymns, done devotions, prayed together, shared together, and tried to keep our lives and our homeschooling focused on the Lord. Our relationship with the Lord has been close. He has been a real part of our daily lives. We feel connected to Him, individually and as a family.
I pray my children’s faith will remain strong. I also pray their future children’s faith will be strong. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we had generation after generation of children who continue this legacy? First, of faith in the Lord; and second, of educating children in a Christian way? Prayer is powerful. Pray about your children’s current and future faith! If faith is intact, it is also likely homeschooling will follow. Do you have to homeschool children for them to be Christian? Absolutely not! Does homeschooling children with Christian curricula like HOD mean children are spending daily time with the Lord that impacts their Christianity in a positive way? Absolutely! So, please join me in praying for our children’s current and future faith and for the blessing of homeschooling in a Christian way! May the tradition of homeschooling carry on!
In Christ,
Julie
