How do I swap out IPC for Biology, and how do I best order the World History guide?
Starting in January, my 10th grader will be doing Heart of Dakota’s (HOD’s) World Geography. However, she will not be doing the science for that year, since she has already done Integrated Physics and Chemistry (IPC) this year. I am getting her the Biology science for the next year‘s guide, World History. We are going to have A LOT going on, and I don’t want it to be overkill with science.
So, I have two questions. First, will it be overkill to do Biology for science in place of IPC? Second, I could buy the World History (WH) Economy package now, but I’d rather spend money on Christmas gifts. I’ll need the whole package next year, and we’ll be sticking with HOD – but then I’m back to Christmas funds again. Can I buy just the WH guide? If so, how? And then am I out the package savings, which are a bunch? I want the plans no matter what. I love the guides’ plans, and so does my daughter.
Sincerely,

I would say that the Biology is scheduled in a way that is comparable time-wise to the IPC that is scheduled in the World Geography. This means that for a child who has already completed IPC, the switch to using the Biology scheduled in the World History Guide in its place would work fine time-wise and workload-wise.
I did schedule the Biology in a manageable way, and the plans do help for that subject area to make it open and go. You are right in thinking it would be easiest to get the guide for World History for the Biology plans (especially since you will be using the guide the following year anyway). You can just click on the WH Economy Package. Then, click on “view details.” This will allow you to purchase the WH guide by itself, as well as allow you to buy your Christmas gifts now!
Then, the following year when you are officially doing the rest of the World History plans and are needing to purchase the rest of the Economy Package for World History, simply let us know that you purchased the guide from HOD early to use the science. My sister will apply the package discount as a credit to you. That way you do not lose out on the package savings, which saves you about $75! We will have a record of your purchase and can just apply the discount at that time.
Blessings,
Carrie

Switching out science in HOD is really easy! I did it all the way through high school for my oldest. He placed in the upper end of the Extension range, so always did higher science (and often LA, as well). It was so nice to have a matching schedule. Even though it’s a tad more cumbersome to use 2 guides, it’s so much easier than trying to come up with our own schedule.
And you can’t beat HOD’s amazing policy to honor the package pricing when you’re ready to buy the rest of the higher guide resources!
Thank you HOD for making high school so adaptable!
