It all started with Drawn into the Heart of Reading.

Heart of Dakota Tidbit

From one guide to a complete line of homeschool curriculum in 17 years

Convention Booth Photo - Heart of Dakota

Did you know Heart of Dakota started with just one guide (Drawn into the Heart of Reading) and just Convention Booth - High Schoolone booth at book fairs back in 2001? Now we have 14 guides and six booths at book fairs! Check out some pictures of our booth, and come find us at a book fair we are attending in 2018. See our 2018 convention schedule here.

This weekend we are at the Teach Them Diligently Convention in Nashville, TN. Our booth number is 1023, so stop by if you are there. We would love to talk to you about our easy to use Christian homeschool curriculum!

Have a great weekend!

Shippers and Packers in the Heart of Dakota Warehouse

Heart of Dakota Tidbit

Our warehouse strives for speedy and neatly shipped orders!

Did you know that one of our sons or nephews ships and packs every order that leaves our warehouse?  Our sons, Cole and Shaw, and our nephew  Wyatt ship and pack every order! Because of this, we know that everyone gets along!

We thank you to those of you who have expressed your thanks or written encouraging comments about our warehouse’s speedy and neat shipping through the years!  When they come in your comments are printed and shared with our sons and nephews by Julie, Carrie’s sister, at the start of each day’s warehouse meeting!

Have a great weekend!

Laura Ingalls Wilder and Heart of Dakota

Heart of Dakota Tidbit

What do Laura Ingalls Wilder and Heart of Dakota have in common? South Dakota!

Did you know Heart of Dakota is located near Laura Ingalls Wilder’s homestead?  The Ingalls family moved to the De Smet area in 1879, at the beginning of the book By the Shores of Silver Lake.  Like many other settlers, free land brought the Ingalls family to Dakota territory.  The homestead can still be visited today!  Just outside our HOD Warehouse, cornfields can still be seen that look much the same as they did when Laura lived in South Dakota – though the size of the fields and the manner in which they are farmed has changed greatly!

Have a great weekend!

Heart of Dakota is a Family Affair!

Heart of Dakota Tidbit

A Family Affair

Did you know our parents graciously watch and homeschool our children while we attend book fairs?  Nana Mellema, Papa Mellema, and Grandma Jackie have all taught from our HOD guides through the years too!  So, HOD is always truly a family affair – even when we have to be gone at a convention!!!

Have a great weekend!
