Are you weary and heavy laden?
What is going on in your life right now? Are you weary and heavy laden? Do you find yourself downtrodden this Christmas season? Well, Jesus has this to say to you…
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-29
Notice Jesus doesn’t say you won’t be weary and burdened at times. He doesn’t say you won’t need rest. On the contrary, He lived on this earth Himself, and He knows all to well how it feels to be weary, burdened, and in need of rest. Jesus doesn’t just talk the talk; He walked the walk. It wasn’t easy for Him, and it won’t always be easy for us either.
Take time to pursue peace and find rest!
What is causing you to be so weary? So burdened? Whatever it is, it is time to pursue peace and find rest. Maybe someone has wronged you, hurt you, or made you bitter. Make peace with it somehow. Maybe you are exhausted – physically, emotionally, and/or mentally. Find rest somehow. The world will not stop turning if you go to bed early, take a nap, or get up late. Life will go on if you cancel a few things, reschedule a few appointments, or miss something you initially planned on doing. Jesus offers peace; perfect peace. He also offers rest, and it is yours for the taking.
Keep your priorities straight and the rest will follow!
Our relationship with Jesus is a priority. Relationships fail with no communication or time spent together. Take time to be with Jesus each day, and rest in Him. His way is gentle, He is humble in heart, and there is much to learn from Him. I can’t describe it adequately, but I know this to be true in my own life. When I am weary, burdened, bitter, sad, or just at a loss about a decision that has to be made, if I go to Jesus, we talk and before long, He has helped me find rest. I don’t always feel like I have all the answers, but I know He does – and that is enough.
