Missions to Modern Marvels
I now officially have a teenager in the house! :D I am so blessed with Wyatt though. He is an incredible help to me, and though he is a little moodier than usual, he's still one of my favorite people to be with. :D Wyatt is just really enjoying MTMM. His History Student Notebook is really coming together and is creating a beautiful portfolio of the work he has done this year. It is fun to pull out his previous years' portfolios and see the progress he has made through his years of doing HOD.

I am truly amazed at how easily Wyatt seems to memorize his very lengthy passages of the Bible this year. I do have him say them for me each morning, and I think this has helped him retain the passages especially well, but it still is just really something to hear. His hymn study with Hymns for Kid's Heart has him learning many timeless hymns, as well as understanding the historical backdrop to the songs an their writers. I like to hear him singing them each morning. The Biblical Worldview study was on Hinduism this week. It is so interesting to read about dc's lives around the world living out different belief systems and see how this effects their view of the world. "Who I Am?..." does a great job of helping us understand different worldviews while also helping us be sure of our own. We have had some excellent conversations as a result of the stories of these dc's lives!:D

The Nature Journal is one of our favorite times together. Wyatt has never had a big love for drawing, but through the years of doing HOD, he has learned to enjoy it (and become better at it) more and more. This year, the Nature Journal has been the perfect close to to Hearts for Him Through Time series of HOD guides. It combines his love for the outdoors and his love for quotations with his burgeoning loves of poetry and nature as seen through God's eyes. I need to take some pictures of his nature journal sometime to show you. It makes ME want to keep one! :D

When I told Wyatt this was his last year of doing DITHOR, he got very quiet and pretty sad. He has loved it so much. The books HOD has chose are amazing! The discussions, the kickoffs, the final projects - are all such fun, and the Student Workbook has gotten so independent now for him he feels very successful with it. Our Godly character trait discussions have been the best though - at least from my point of view.

I really appreciate the time I get alone with Wyatt, as our dc are in multiple guides. It really helps us be able to get a little deeper and a little more personal about our discussions. We get to discuss viewpoints, mature topics, struggles, temptations, successes, beliefs, and so much more - I'm thankful for our time alone. I am also thankful for the times when we do more round table learning. This is usually toward the end of our time before lunch, and each of the boys is working on something I can sort of move between each of them to oversee. This is a fun together time too! :D

Hope you had a good week too!

Creation to Christ
Riley is really enjoying Geography of the Holy Land, especially the travel logs he gets to create. The way the geography is written is so interesting - it really brings to life the time period. I cannot say I was ever interested in geography myself - until HOD. It really is so much more interesting when connected to history, to people, to events told in a narrative way!

Of course, having Turkish tea was great fun too! Especially since they often have sweets with their tea. Here all the boys are having hot tea with lemon and honey, and with dark chocolate squares. They are sitting on the floor, as is the custom, and loving every minute of it!

The history project this week had Riley designing the 12 gemstones for the breastplate Aaron wore as a priest. Riley really enjoyed every step of it! The CTC History Student book was a huge help. Its full color pictures really help with projects...

Riley really enjoys the quick skit he prepares for that we do together as one of this Storytime follow-ups this year. Here he is with his Egyptian Pyramid and gemstone, acting out the scene from the "Boy of the Pyramids" where Socharis realizes Antohem has been robbing the tomb of the Pharaoh...

Here is an easy way to edit - just underline the misspelled words in the dc's work (or cursive letters formed incorrectly), and write them properly on a markerboard, having the dc correct them in their work...

Finally, here is RIley enjoying showing a completed week in his CTC History Student Notebook - what a great week! :D

Little Hearts for His Glory
Emmett and I have been reading about some of the hardships the disciples faced after Jesus ascended into heaven. He is starting to understand how following Jesus is not always easy, but for those disciples to do all they did for Him, Jesus must be an incredible Savior! With Christmas season being here, Emmett is in awe of Baby Jesus being born and then growing up to become our Savior as He died on the cross and rose in 3 days to heaven. He is connecting things like he never has before. It is really God at work in his heart, via HOD. I am so thankful! Here Emmett is with his art project...

We've been listening to Emmett's Hide 'Em in Your Heart CD as we do our chores in the morning sometimes. It is neat to hear all 3 of my boys singing along with it. The two oldest remember having used it with LHFHG years back, and Emmett has fun seeing everyone sing along. He really is memorizing his verses so much more easily now. Recently, he learned the Lord's Prayer, which was lengthier to memorize, but when he reviewed it for his review week, he remembered it exactly! The actions really help, as does the music. It is neat to hear him learning God's word by heart.

In Singapore Math, Emmett has been learning about halves and quarters. HOD's has awesome hands-on activities, and they have helped him understand how to divide things properly (what child doesn't learn the importance of equal parts when they are dividing food to be shared?!? ). Here he is dividing crackers and yarn pieces...
