More interruptions and less school happening in our home. I would be getting frustrated, but because we dropped co-op this year, we are only two days behind schedule. We should have those caught up by Thanksgiving!! :D

Ds continues to thrive in Rev to Rev. We began unit 13 this week, but only finished through day 2. For more, you can check out my blog:

We couldn't wait so we decided to try out LHFHG with our 5 yo. We got 3 days done ( of unit 1) and overall enjoyed it!

Bigger Hearts we only got through Unit 10, day 3. He has really been enjoying the study on Ben Franklin.
That is one of his favorite historical characters. We have a couple science things to make up since I don't normally
carry those items needed. Monday since it is not a school day I plan to have a "Ben Franklin Hour" and do every thing
we can. It will be a lot of fun, because they don't see some of these things as 'school' :D

We did not get any LHTH done with the 3yo. Instead she joined in on a couple LHFHG activities.

Missions to Modern Marvels (MTMM)
I have been privileged enough to use all of HOD’s guides with my oldest ds, Wyatt, and I look back on each year spent together as having its own special memories, unique with its own areas of growth and maturity. This year, however, is extra special – it is like a total harvest season for the two of us! For all of you ladies newer to HOD, all I can say is, putting some time into the younger guides as HOD intends us to do as teachers of our young dc, has a HUGE payoff - HUGE! It pays back big dividends year after year after year. MTMM is like the culmination of all of these years of learning coming together. It feels like a celebration of sorts for Wyatt and me. You know how pair figure skaters work together sort of seamlessly, each knowing their individual part in the routine, yet all the while the pair is working together! Yep, you guessed it, Wyatt and I are the pair figure skaters here!!! I just feel so blessed by MTMM, for it is giving me confidence to move on to homeschool through high school. I thought I would, but now I know I can.

I have taken waaaaaaaaaay too many pictures of Wyatt doing MTMM, so I will try to scale it down for you ladies here, so this doesn't become a novel.

Wyatt LOVES, LOVES, LOVES the science in MTMM! He is a regular chemist. Having looked quite extensively at other science programs, I was very happy to see that the chem in MTMM does the exact same experiments done in science programs thought to be "advanced," but with clearer instructions and a great chem kit that is not so incredibly dangerous, so he can be successful without me taking it over and doing it for him (which is a scary thought in itself  ). Wyatt has begun calling himself "Professor, Scientist Extraordinaire," as he performs the wonders of MTMM's science experiments for his adoring younger onlookers. (I am not kidding about him calling himself that either. Obviously MTMM's Biblical Worldview study of a healthy self-image is working. )...
Image Image Image

MTMM's History Projects are appropriately mature for Wyatt's age, and give him an important outlet for meaningful hands-on work...
Image Image Image

This is how we spend our "meeting time" together. Wyatt with his gigantic hot cocoa, and me with my super strong coffee. We love this time together. Our favorites have been the Worthy Words socratic discussions, the period memorabilia, the President Study multi-media research, the Biblical Worldview study readings and discussions, and the Nature Study. He also loves his bookmark Storytime follow-up. I love his prayer journal notes in his Bible study - they are a window into his mind for me. This has been such a great year already! :D Here he is with his hot cocoa, and then with his index card he prepared for our Socratic discussion...

Math. Praise the Lord, Wyatt STILL loves math! :D We are in Singapore Math 6B and trying which path we will take after that. For now, we love the way it is going. We use the marker board a lot, and we write right in the textbook (they are cheap and it's easier). I stay by his side the whole time, but I honestly am impressed with what he can do in his head. It is totally due to having done Singapore for so long, because I was pretty good at math, but he's faster than me for sure. :D

Our DITHOR kickoff for nonfiction was a family affair! :D Here is our boys' reenactment of the Battle of Gettysburg, complete with all sorts of 'weapons' and performed outdoors...

Okay - better stop now. We are loving MTMM so much here! It is the right "hard enough" yet "heart enough" balance. Love it, and looking forward to sharing more here as the year progresses! :D

Preparing Hearts for His Glory - PHFHG:
Riley and I have just finished PHFHG! What an amazing year it has been! I got to see my little Riley grow up before my very eyes. He can write POETRY now, GOOD poetry! Who knew? He can write narrations now, and guess what? They make sense AND I can read them. :D He can make pretty and balanced notebooking pages now. So much better than at the start! He can complete science lab sheets easily and sees himself as a great scientist. Math. He knows his facts. PTL! He loves math. Grammar - he is remembering more and more, and I know from big brother's experience, this retention will keep getting better and better. He can do his own Bible Quiet Time, and it means something personal to him! He sings hymns, and he knows them by heart. He loves history and can do history projects with a fewer directions quite well. His oral narrations are not peppered with the "AND THEN..." sentence starters - they actually are beginning to flow well, and he remembers the sequence better. He's always had personality in his narrations, but now he has stopped saying things like, "That neat guy with the wig and the quill pen, who was he again?" and things such as this in the middle of his narrations. :D Ahhhhhh, sweet progress. Thank you PHFHG! :

Here are some pics from our PHFHG finale! Again, I took so many, but I'll attempt to downsize here.

Science experiment... can you believe the hollow 'legs' held way more books?!? He couldn't either! :D ...

Riley's poetry... sorry! I cannot get photobucket to rotate it without it freezing up...luckily his other poem is the right way...

What a year! We are 2 days into CTC, going half-speed, and will have to share our first week with you here next time! :D

Little Hearts for His Glory - LHFHG:
Emmett grew so much over the summer break, that we are now able to do LHFHG full-speed. Hooray! :D He especially loves the Storytime, and we kick off our day with it together cuddled in my bed. He is listening so much better now and can answer the questions well overall. What progress!

In math, Emmett is having a ball with measurement. The hands-on activities HOD has are just plain fun, and he totally gets the workbook follow-up because of them. Give the boy water, and he's lovin' life!
Image Image Image

Another fun math activity that had Emmett determining whether things weighed more than, less than, or the same as his current favorite book... "Danny Meadow Mouse"...
Image

Our art projects are helping Emmett understand the stories, as well as strengthen his cutting and gluing fine motor skills...
Image

Making music science style...
Image

Can you say your Bible verse before the Kleenex hits the floor? If not, get a taller chair, that's Emmett's motto...
Image

Look out for this crazy iguana... hey, at least he is coloring and his letter 'i' is looking fly! :D
Image

Has to be like big brothers and have a 'meeting time with mama' (though I think it is the hot cocoa that is the draw instead of me)! :D
Image

We picked up LHFHG like a long lost friend after this summer. What a great start to the school year! :D

In Christ,
Julie
