Very nice blogs ladies!

All you get from me is a typed summary.

We've been schooling off and on all summer, but 3 weeks ago we started for "serious" again. Trying to get school done almost every day. This week though was the first week we were really on it, and getting through everyone's stuff every day (even if it took until 4:00, no kidding).

My oldest is in unit 17 of CTC, my 2nd is in Unit 25 of Bigger, and my 3rd is in Unit 31 of LHFHG (Yikes, almost done!)

CTC - Esther and that time period is the time period she is learning about. The projects she's done have been kind of intense (Friday was a cooking project, which she loves, but it took a long time). That has caused school overall to take longer than I would like. What has gone really well is that I have had her doing a couple of boxes each evening after her siblings go to bed. She is a night owl, and also this gives her the opportunity to work on math with her dad, which is much preferable for everyone than working on it with me. She also loves that when she gets up the next morning she can already check off two boxes! Then I do storytime with her before we get the other 3 kids up and there's another box checked off! With that, she is able to get done by lunchtime, as long as there aren't any time-consuming projects to do.

Bigger - The Gold Rush, Westward Expansion. Several of the stories and vocabulary were from Journeys in Time this week. I really like that book, I wish it was longer! The activities going along with it have also helped her to really visualize what was happening. She enjoyed the game where you pretend you are looking for gold (we used pennies). She is really growing into owning the notebooking projects and being able to do them well, even though they are getting longer with more writing. I am proud of how she is progressing.

LHFHG - We are getting toward the end of the history and I think it kind of gets disjointed at this point. The Rhyme in Motion really brings it together, but otherwise, it seems like we are just learning about some very disconnected things. I know it's just an overview and it's okay if they don't remember it all, I just find it harder to engage with the stories/history because of how random they seem. My DD is almost through Singapore 1A so I think right about the time she moves into Beyond she will also be starting 1B (which makes sense because Kindergarten A was the one we skipped, realizing the preschool math book I did already covered all of the concepts in that book). She is also doing pretty well with reading. When she turned 6 I told her she would be doing 2 pages of TRL each day instead of just one. She didn't like it at first, but now she has really been doing well, and she seems to enjoy reading a little more than she was before. She's a very intuitive reader and blends the sounds better than I remember any of my other kids doing at this stage.

My 3 year old son is doing some sticker books, cutting and pasting, and things like that. He knows numbers 1-10 and is working on learning letters (when I was working with him I discovered he knows W and Z - but doesn't consistently recognize many others). But I think we are saving LHTH for next year which will be his pre-K year. By then I will have Res to Ref, Preparing, and Beyond/almost Bigger.

And baby E is cute and cuddly, and loves to play. Thankfully she still takes a pretty good morning nap!

This week was a crazy one for us due to my daughter starting RtR, an unexpected Ortho appointment, taking my oldest to sewing class and my hubby being home 1 day (he has to work Sat every week until they get a contract...sigh...at least they are not on strike!). This week will be crazy again with an ortho appointment and my hubby being home 1 day again.

So as I said, my oldest (age 16) took a sewing class (4th time) and is almost done with her dress (Medieval dress that she will wear this coming Sat to a Medieval Festival). She wants to go into Fine Arts and Fashion Design so designing and making this dress was a very good class for her. It is looking so nice.

I started my 14 year old on RtR 1/2 speed. We did manage to do 1/2 each day even with having to be gone partial days. The first days were rough as she did not know what to expect, there was a lot more reading than she was used to and narrations/writing is hard for her. We did it though and I hope that this week will be better. It is my goal to finish Unit 1 with her this week.

With the craziness, I was able to do 3 half days with my son in Bigger. He would have like to do more, but I had to concentrate on my older one this week. He did get one science notebooking page done. I hope to get though more work with him this week as things with the one in RtR settles down.

LHFHG....we more or less skipped most days but did do the some total of 1 day's worth of work this week over several days. (sigh) He would have like to do more but it just did not work out. He is on Unit 3 so is the furthest in his book, so that is why I choose to skip his work.

My goal this week to do work with RtR half speed and add in both Bigger and LHFHG full speed on the 3 days we do not have things going on.
