Awesome first day with LHTH & Bigger! :)

Post by momto2grls » Mon Jun 16, 2008 7:01 pm

We had such an awesome day! The words of my 7 yr old dd pretty much say it all. She came up to me about half way through the day and said: "I thought it was going to be like every other school day, but it's much more fun." Come to think of it, I felt the same way!
My 3 year old had so much fun with Little Hands, she giggled all the way through the fingerplay "Adam and the Animals." Dd(7) enjoys helping out with her sister's preschool lessons and participating as well.
Before HOD, I struggled many weeks to fit in both Art and Music lessons. Today, we followed the lessons, and managed to do both in one day! :o
Today is the first time since we began homeschooling that I did not end my day feeling thoroughly exhausted, I was able to pace myself throughout the day and never felt rushed to get it all done.
I am so thankful to have been led to HOD! :D

YEAH! That is so awesome! So glad you and your kids loved it. We felt the same way on the first day. You expect some time to ramp up but it just starts out easy and fun and stays that way! So excited for you guys! :D

Congratulations on your first day!!! The best part is that you will still feel this way 6mos from now! I cannot tell you how many times my years would start off strong, filled with excitement, only to quickly fizzle. Not so, with HOD! I find I love it more the longer I used it! Isn't that EXCITING! :D

momto2girls,

I'm so excited that you thoroughly enjoyed your first day and that your kiddos could tell a difference in their school day!

That is an answer to prayer for us, so I'm so glad you shared! We're rejoicing with you today! :D

Blessings,

Isn't HOD great! That's how we felt on our first day, and how we still feel and we're now on week 5 of LHFHG! Some days after we get done with LHFHG C asks when we're going to do school. I guess she doesn't always realize that LHFHG is school, which shows how much fun she's having! It's so great you're having that kind of fun. I know we'll enjoy both those programs when we get to them.

woo hoo! what a great day you've had!! :-)

that's one of the things I discussed with a friend of mine who just "converted" to HOD. I said that yes, it's deceptively simple in the teacher's guide, but if I'm doing NOTHING right now, then isn't simple better then nothing? Really-before we were fully using HOD we struggled to get anything done with any regularity. Now we have simple, laid out plans that actually get done!! And best of all, the boys are retaining what we learn with HOD. That didn't happen with my cobbled together stuff we used before. :-)

Darci,

WARNING.... Soapbox is out, and I am on it!

What you said is SO true! I often tell moms at convention that the best guide/program is one that gets done! Sometimes we are lured into buying the supposed "cream of the crop" as far as curriculum goes, and when we get home and put all those programs together there is no physical way to teach that much each day!

As the year progresses and reality sets in, we starting letting go of the huge time investors and are left with the basics. (I'm speaking from experience here!)

So, with HOD we look at balancing your whole day, making sure no one subject overtakes all the others. This way you can still cover your academics, have meaningful conversations with your kiddos about the Bible and their heart issues, be done in a timely fashion, and enjoy creating great memories with your kiddos as you go!

Blessings,
Carrie

What a great beginning - and with HOD it just keeps getting better! :o :o

I'm so glad you found HOD!

I do think that HOD guides seem deceptively simple... the easy-to-use boxed plan format of plans makes it seem that way. However, there are MEATY Biblical topics, discussions, CM-style skills, notebooking, higher level read-alouds, classical poetry, research skills, personal application, etc. Everything is just done in bite-sized manageable segments and done on a balanced rotating basis. I so agree with what Darci and Carrie had to say - the best curriculum is the one that actually gets done - and HOD always gets done at our house... happily... and completely. You've got so much to look forward to - so glad you are here!

We just completed our first week, and what a success! :D
I definitely agree that at first glance HOD appears to be "deceptively simple". I am amazed at how thorough and well thought out the lessons are. Both kids had so much fun and we worked through all of the lessons each day without feeling rushed. I can't wait until Monday to get started on week 2!
