It was a good, but slow week with HOD. I again had to be a little bit creative this week as we had a busy time. Monday I did some of Beyond and LHFHG to finish up their units from the previous week. We took Tuesday off because I had to go to an appointment an hour away and we cleaned the house. Wednesday and Thursday we worked on Unit 5 of LHFHG, Unit 33 of Beyond, and Unit 26 of Preparing. But we only got 2 days done of each of those and I really felt pretty good to get that done. On Thursday my 2YO got sick (threw up on the floor) right in the midmorning. So I cleaned him and his mess up and set about calling everyone we were supposed to see that day (we had lunch plans, we had a babysitter coming that evening so my husband and I could go out, and I wanted to find a sub for my spot in the co op the next morning). Then somehow we actually did finish up school. My 7YO put the 2YO down for his nap after lunch because I was still sitting and finishing up LHFHG with my 5YO. And I felt like God gave me so much grace during this really busy and off week.

Since we did such a small amount of the units I might detail more about it next week. I'm thankful for the flexibility of homeschooling. I grant that if my older kids were in school, their school wouldn't have been thrown off by all this, but then again we learn from the school of life. And we will pick it up again next week. My oldest is having fun with her relic box project, and I do love how she is learning so much from these projects and it really makes the history come to life. All of my kids love the hands-on activities that HOD provides for them.

We had a great first week of school. Several weeks were spent in the summer working out a new schedule. I felt extremely defeated and discouraged many, many days because I just could not figure out how to make it work. Finally, with much prayer, I had something that fit together (at least on paper :) ) I really think it was the best "1st week" of school we have ever had. They are really full days, but I love what all the kids are learning. I started LHFHG with my 5 year old and it is absolutely precious. The one-on-one time I have with the younger ones is so meaningful, to them and to me. It's a juggling act, that's for sure, but I know this (HOD) is so good for them. I am amazed, the more I get into the guides, how much Carrie packs in there. Makes me wish I would've done this a long time ago! :)

My son who is doing Res2Ref remarked to me how much he is enjoying "Bondage to Freedom". I read a section he shared with me and it was so rich! I wish I had the time to read all of these wonderful books!

quiverfull - you are doing Bigger, Preparing, ResToRef and RevToRev all at once? And you made a schedule that works out on paper? I am so impressed.

My 7YO will finish Beyond here in a couple of weeks. Then I will have 2 1/2 months or so of Bigger + Preparing + LHFHG and I still have not really tried to work out how that will change up our schedule and how we are going to get that done full-speed. I know my DD is ready. I just don't know if I am ready!

Add on to that I will be teaching a co op class during that timeframe, and other church commitments that I am trying to get out of the way so I can take it "easy" once my baby is born.

But I know the Lord will provide. And it's great to see Him providing a good first week for you and I hope and pray it will continue to be effective and enjoyable. I too love the younger guides, I love that I do get that special time with my 5YO doing things on her level and challenging her. She is really ready for more of a challenge.

Well this was week 3 of school here, we just finished up unit 3 of Bigger and things are getting better, I am starting to get the hang of the big change from a more textbook and workbook type of curiculum to a more "classical" type I guess it's called right :?:
I have changed around some scheduling to allow me more time to work with my little one on phonics. The first two weeks I thought there was going to be no way I would find time for anything, because school was taking all day long. I decided to make things like Handwriting, Spelling, Storytime, Poetry, and Reading every other day classes instead of everyday. This change has changed everything and has helped so much. We don't skip anything we just go a little slower on those classes. The main reason we chose HOD was the guide I am loving the guide before we switched I was using almost a different company for each subject so it was hard to schedule things, and to keep up with where we were in each one, in fact we finished geography before the first half of the year and had to do some math on through summer. I love just opening the book and knowing where we are in everything and what pages to read from where. It put tabs in the guide so I could stop flipping to find the poems, or suggested reading and so on that has saved a few minutes here and there...LOL
So at first my girls were a little disappointed with the science being kinda lighter than what they have been used to, but they love the journaling, and my son who is only 4 will listen in on some stuff and amaze me later when I ask the girls a question and he blurts it out, he remembers it because he thinks it's cool to learn about the seashore. I know he would not be joining in if it were our usual type of science class. This is all so different but I think we may just be falling in love with it. :D
