What are you adding to HOD if anything in the fall?

Post by Jessi » Wed May 27, 2009 2:29 pm

We are going back to half speed for summer, fall, and winter months. We are going to add in some fun elements to those days. Here is what we are going to do. Curious what the rest of you are planning on adding in to HOD.

I plan on adding in some fun library books for science like some Usborne early readers and some Let's Read and Find Out science. I think she'll really like it. And I hope to start Artistic Pursuits in the fall as well. We LOVE art at our house. :-) That's it for now.

What about you?

We enjoy lapbooking and art, so I will probably throw in a little of that, along with Health-Prudence and the Millers; Nature walks and co-op days with our homeschool group.

Love my husband of 18 years this year;
Love my 3 teenagers--13, 15, and 16. They keep me young, but hanging on for dear life!
Used HOD in the earliest years with all three of them!

We will be new to HOD, so anything that I do in addition to Preparing and Little Hearts will depend on how full our days are at that time. We will definately be continuing with Greek (Hey Andrew! Teach Me Some Greek) and studying Latin roots (English from the Roots Up) regardless. My oldest son didn't complete all of his Chemistry study this year, so we will continue that at our own pace. We will also continue nature study, and additional art and music study. I don't really consider those things to be school though.

We have already started Little Hearts and are really enjoying it.

Oh, Yes, just remembered... we'll be doing Manners Made Easy, also.

We will be starting Bigger in the Fall, at half speed, except for math. I will alternate Handle on the Arts and Spanish and only school 4 days a week.
This is the plan for 2nd & 3rd grade...for now!

My plan is to do a 50 states study and a Classical Music study in addition to Preparing. I also have a Baseball Unit Study by Amanda Bennett that I am going to fit in if we finish up the school year before my dd who is in public High School is done.

If I can get back in the groove, I hope to add some things (but we don't really consider them school b/c the kids love it so much-- they'd do it on Saturdays!)

The Fun Spanish with Complete Book Of Starter Spanish for my K'er and Complete Book of Spanish for my 3rd grader.
English From the Roots Up
Themes to Remember (Classical Music Study)
Go Fish For Art Games (Artist Study)
Conversation With Character (for my social skills challenged kid...bless her heart)

Sounds like a lot, but we won't do it all everyday and like I said, my kids love it all so much it's not like school to them. It's our afternoon, after school structured fun time.

I love the Let's read and find out science books! We will likely read a few of those over the next year or so. Basically, we will not really "plan" to add much of anything. We may end up doing a lapbook or two, and we always do various read a louds from the library and such, but nothing scheduled as school... just some "fun stuff" thrown in if and when we feel up to it. :D

We will also be new to HOD this fall. Both my kids will be doing God's Design for Science in a coop and my dd will be taking an art class. That's about it. We are going to try to keep it simple until we get into a groove. :)

I have an art program called Atelier that we did this year. The kids really enjoyed it, so we will continue with that. And they take piano lessons. We may do a swim clinic or choir. I'm considering a science co-op but I probably won't if we do the swim or choir. :) I personally want to do more bible study, so I may bring my kids into that with me. Other than that, I'm am usually doing good just to get the main manual done! I can't wait for Bigger! :D

I am planning on doing a study on manners (oops your manners are showing). I also am planning on teaching my kids how to play the piano. We will be using kinderbach. We will be using harmony fine arts for art appreciation and to study classical music. I have just ordered the little keepers of faith and little contenders of faith books. I really want to work on behavior and helping out with household chores this year.

We don't add much academically at all. But we add Community Bible Study, gymnastics, swim lessons, and sports.

I'm doing Preparing and LHTH. My (almost) 9yo is going to go to a one-day enrichment program where she'll get Spanish, Art, Music, PE, and Public Speaking. So I will expand on some of those, esp Spanish, at home. I also want to add in some memory work like books of the Bible, states & capitols, things like that. I'm going to use classicsforkids.com for music appreciation. More nature study. All our academics are so great with HoD that I feel fine in that area.

What I really want to make time for is the fun extras, like I'd like to teach my daughter how to sew, and cook, and garden, and clean house. Like a Home Ec type thing. DS can tag along.

I will be doing CTC with my oldest daughter this year and it is only 4 days a week, we will be adding Art Fraud Detective & art appreciation class, composer study, Piano for Life DVD, PE, Health and maybe Greek.

I will be doing Bigger with my 2nd dd and will be adding Exploring Creation with Astronomy, she will probably will also be doing art & music w/ her sister.

My boys will be doing Beyond. I don't plan on adding anything other than field trips (also with my dd) & PE.

We are doing Beyond and Little Hands this year. I'm not adding anything to Little Hands. I'm adding cantering the country to Beyond, so my son will do a study of the 50 states and each state's tree, bird, flower etc. Also, Latin Primer A,and Come Look With Me: Art in Early America. We started this schedule today, it took about 3 1/2- 4 hours for everything. I love this curriculum, I am just compelled to ADD things :o
