Possible mistake in Bigger.?just wondering if I'm missing it

Post by inHistiming » Wed Aug 20, 2008 9:03 am

While doing vocabulary today, the 3rd word according to the manual is stranded, found on page 10 of A First Book in American History. My son was unable to find it there, and after looking, I could not see it either. I did, however, find the word standard. I'm wondering if this is actually the word he is supposed to be looking for and maybe it was misprinted in the manual? I looked on other pages and never found stranded, but standard is on page 10...the page quoted in the book. I'm just curious if I'm missing it...but I went ahead and had him do standard anyway.

Yep, I remember running across that one too! We made a note of it in our guide and will correct it in the next printing run! However, we print large quantities, so it will be awhile before a reprint! :D

Okay, good. I'll go back and make a note of it for later. I just wanted to make sure we weren't both just overlooking it!

We did this today and I was stumped too. I finally figured out that it must have meant "standard", maybe? I found that word on the page, but not stranded!

This was Unit 1 in Bigger..day 3-Vocabulary. The word in the manual says stranded, but it's actually supposed to be standard.

We didn't find "stranded" on that page either, but I just had the kids do that word anyway, especially since that was the title of the next day's reading in
Science. I've used so many things over the years that have little mistakes in them here and there (which is understandable), that I didn't think that much of it---using stranded worked fine but I think changing the word to "standard" would be fine too. They are learning no matter what. :-)
