Package Pricing: New World History Guide

Post by Carrie » Wed Jun 11, 2014 5:29 pm

Ladies,

You are so gracious and patient in waiting for the packages and pricing for the new guide to get up on the website. :D I do have much of the content to our web designer, and he is working on it! However, as I am also working on the new guide right now I know that it may take awhile before the new web content is proofed and ready. Since it also may be awhile until the new catalog is done, I'm going to put the package descriptions and pricing here for you and link the corresponding sneak peeks below each package to give details about what the packages entail. Hopefully, this will help many of you in your budgeting and in your decisions! :D

Economy Package without Book of Centuries (Note: Only use this option if you previously purchased the Book of Centuries for use with the World Geography guide): Retail: $447.14 SAVE $65.00 (through HOD) Your Price: $382.14
Economy Package with Book of Centuries (Note: Use this option if you did not do the World Geography guide): Retail: $482.09 SAVE $70.00 (through HOD) Your Price: $412.09

The Economy Package contains the 16 required resources below. These resources correspond with the World History guide’s plans to help your student earn one full credit in World History and one full credit in Bible. The World History guide also schedules additional resources daily to allow your student to earn up to 7 total credits for this year of study so be sure to add any additional packages that come after the Economy Package to customize this program to suit your student’s needs. While this guide is ideally targeted for students in grade 10, students in grades 11-12 may still use it by adjusting the 3R’s and science as needed. Students who have come up through Heart of Dakota on the youngest age range of our guides, and who have completed the World Geography guide in grade 8 as their first year of high school, may use the World History guide in grade 9 as their second year of high school.

Living Library with The King’s Shadow (for less sensitive readers) and In Search of Honor Retail: $204.83 SAVE $40.00 (through HOD) Your Price: $164.83
Living Library with Son of Charlemagne (for more sensitive readers) and In Search of Honor Retail: $213.28 SAVE $43.00 (through HOD) Your Price: $170.28

Living Library with Son of Charlemagne (for more sensitive readers) and Patriot’s Daughter Retail: $220.23 SAVE $44.00 (through HOD) Your Price: $176.23
This 20 book/audio set is a “Living Library”, selected for its text connections to the world history plans. The books in this package are not intended to fulfill your student’s high school literature credit, as students are scheduled in the “Literature” portion of the World History guide to read separate higher-level literature to fulfill that need. Instead, the books in this package were chosen to make world history come alive and to help students experience various places and time periods through the pages of these books. A daily reading schedule for the books is provided in the guide. This set is highly recommended, unless you need to economize, however it is not required to earn credit in World History.

Note on Package Book Choices: The King’s Shadow is a terrific novel based in the time period of William the Conqueror and the Battle of Hastings, however it also has several scenes that include graphic violence. With this in mind, we also offer the choice of the Son of Charlemagne instead. Both are scheduled in the guide.

The book In Search of Honor is a thought-provoking adventure set in the time of the French Revolution; however, it was scheduled as a part of the Extension Pack in Revival to Revolution. With this in mind, we offer the choice of Patriot’s Daughter instead. Patriot’s Daughter is an excellent book as well and has a main character that is a girl. While students who have not read either book may select either option, more sensitive readers should select Patriot’s Daughter. Both books are scheduled in the guide.

To earn one-full credit of Fine Arts, choose the package that includes the Art Projects’ DVD Set. To earn ½ credit of Fine Arts, choose the package without the Art Projects’ DVD Set. Spanish Package: Spanish Homeschool Curriculum Kit Retail $87.95 SAVE $8.79 (through HOD) Your Price: $79.16
Adding the Spanish Homeschool Curriculum Kit to the Economy Package adds one-full credit in Spanish over the next two years to your student’s program. The first half of this resource is scheduled daily in the World History guide, allowing your student to earn ½ credit in Spanish in the World History guide. The remaining half of this resource will be scheduled in the guide that follows the World History guide, allowing your student to earn another ½ credit in Spanish in that guide. Since this Spanish program moves quickly and is quite vocabulary intensive, it is best if students have some previous Spanish exposure (like Getting Started With Spanish) prior to beginning this program. Students who desire to study a different foreign language, or who are beyond Spanish I, may substitute a different language course in place of this option to fulfill the foreign language requirement.

*Spanish I Homeschool Curriculum Kit (one kit per family – includes 10 consumable
worktexts, accompanying pronunciation CD’s, Teacher’s Guide, and Answer Key)
*Optional: Spanish I - 10 Unit Set (worktexts only - for an extra student)

English:
High school credit in English is earned through a combination of literature, composition, and grammar. In the World History guide, the daily literature portion uses a set of full-length novels/plays. The composition portion uses Essentials in Writing: Grade 11 twice weekly. The grammar portion uses the last half of Rod and Staff: English 7 twice weekly (alternating with composition). Together these resources add one-full English credit to your 10th – 12th grade student’s program. Either order a complete English package (which includes literature, composition, and grammar), or customize by ordering a smaller package or individual items. Click on each resource below to see its description or to purchase items individually. Money-saving packages are found at the end of this section.

*Essentials in Writing: Grade 11 (DVD Lessons and Pre-printed Student Book)
*Optional: Additional Pre-printed Essentials in Writing: Grade 11 Student Book
*Rod and Staff: English 7 Student Text
*Rod and Staff: English 7 Teacher’s Manual
*Literature Set: (Note: Specific versions of the books below are required for use with our plans.)
1. Ben Hur (book and audio)
2. Julius Caesar (book and audio)
3. Pearl Maiden
4. King Arthur and His Knights
5. A Man for All Seasons
6. The Scarlet Pimpernel
7. The Count of Monte Cristo
8. Les Miserables (book and audio)
9. Animal Farm
10. The Celestial Railroad

Note: If you already purchased Rod and Staff English 7 for use with the World Geography guide, then you will not need to purchase it for use with the World History Guide. Also, if your child previously used the Extension Packages in Creation to Christ and Revival to Revolution, you already own the audios for “Ben Hur” and “Les Miserables.” In this case, select the package below without those audios.

Complete English Packages:

Complete Science Package:
Science Text/Activity PACE Set + Answer Keys + 12 DVDs of Daily Lessons (Labs included): Retail: $327.75, SAVE $2.00 (through HOD) Your Price: $325.75

Text/Activity PACE Set and Lab only DVD Science Package:
Science Text/Activity PACE Set + Answer Keys + Lab only DVD: Retail: $96.75, SAVE $1.50 (through HOD) Your Price: $95.25

Optional: Additional Text/Activity PACE Set (for an extra student) $39.60 (Add to Cart)

Adding the Science Package to your Economy Package adds one-full credit of science (with lab) to your program. The focus of this year of science is Biology. This package is required unless you have your own science. Both Science Packages include 12 chapters of text (PACEs), 12 consumable activity books (located in the center of the texts), printed answer keys, and Labs on DVD (including performances of all labs). The “Complete Science Package” also includes 12 DVDs of daily lessons featuring professional footage of animals and plants; as well as photographs, charts, and diagrams of other biology-related topics. These daily DVD lessons are not classroom lectures. The text of the DVDs closely mirrors the text in the PACEs meaning that families who cannot afford the DVD option can still complete the course without them. The 12 DVD set includes the labs integrated throughout the DVDs, so a separate Lab DVD is not needed to be purchased with this option. All “Complete Science Package” items are scheduled in the World History guide, including the labs. For additional students add an additional set of PACEs.
*Biology PACEs: 3rd Edition (12 texts with included activity books)
*Biology PACE Answer Keys (one per PACE)
*Biology Lab only DVD (1 DVD = 25 labs)
*Biology Daily Lesson DVDs: (12 DVDs with integrated Labs = 141 Lessons, + 25 labs, and more than 1300 total min. of instructional footage)

Note: The labs can simply be watched as a part of the coursework; however, if you desire your student to work along with some of the labs you can choose to have your student do that using the "Apologia Biology Dissection Kit" from hometrainingtools.com. This kit includes the following specimens: frog, perch, crayfish, and worm (all of which are dissected as a part of School of Tomorrow's Biology as well). Students can just follow along with the School of Tomorrow DVD labs and dissect along with the instructor for those labs. Specimens do expire (lasting about 9 months). They are not in formaldehyde, making the specimens have less of an odor. All specimens can be disposed of in the household garbage. We would not encourage you to do the starfish dissection, as it is easy to cut yourself on that particular lab. The fetal pig dissection could also be performed if desired along with the DVD lab; however that lab moves fairly quickly through the dissection, so you would have to be willing to pause quite a bit as you go. A fetal pig specimen can be ordered separately at hometrainingtools.com.

If you desire your student to gain physical experience with a microscope, you could consider adding either the "Apologia Biology Microscope Kit" or the "Microscope Starter Kit" from hometrainingtools.com. Both will require the use of a microscope, which you can also purchase from ‪http://www.hometrainingtools.com. The labs in School of Tomorrow's Biology do include microscope work on DVD, meaning that you are not required to purchase a microscope unless you desire to do so. If your child is not destined for a biology related field, you could consider simply having your child watch the labs and record results without the aid of working along with the lab kits. This is how the labs will be scheduled within our guide.

Yay!

Thank you so much for putting this together! I really do appreciate it. My enthusiasm for your curriculum has spurred interest from several friends that are now planning to use it as well. I just can't contain my love of homeschooling with your guides. Thanks again!

Am I correct that we can pre-order by phone some of the new products even if they aren't on the website yet?

Is there a price listing available for the Geometry set? I'm trying to get a full price amount for everything so we can start planning to budget for this, for next year.

Edited to add: Will The Geometer's Sketchpad also be included in this geometry package?

Thanks so much! ;)

StillJulie,

I am so glad that you are excited to see the package pricing. You can definitely order all items from the World History Guide now by calling us to place your order. We will ship out all items that we have in stock, with the Guide and the Notebook pages coming at the very end of August or early September. :D

If we run a preview promotion prior to launching the new guide officially on our website, we will apply that promotion to all of those customers who have already ordered so that they do not miss out on any special promotions by ordering early. :D

Thanks so much for sharing HOD with others! We are truly blessed to have such wonderful families like yours sharing the homeschool journey with us. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Lisa,

Thanks for reminding me that I need to add pricing to the Math listed above. I will do that today. As far as the Geometer's Sketchpad goes, David Chandler is changing all of the Geometry demonstrations over to a free program called Geogebra, so Geometer's Sketchpad will not be required anymore. However, the full changeover on the DVD will not be done until sometime in the Fall of this year. So, for now when you purchase a DVD, he is giving you access to his lessons online as he has them completed using Geogebra and the DVD still comes with the use of the Geometer's Sketchpad style lessons. That way you can choose which route you'd like to go for your lesson viewing. When you purchase your Math Without Borders DVD from HOD, it comes with an instruction sheet on how to view David's lessons. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
