Sneak Peek #7: New Guide Missions to Modern Marvels

Post by Carrie » Sun Feb 12, 2012 8:55 pm

Ladies,

My last sneak peek had to do with the terrific Biblical discussions that you can plan on having with your kiddos through Who Am I? This sneak peek has to do with an area that is equally as important... the area of the child's Bible Quiet Time in Missions to Modern Marvels. :D

Our plan for this particular guide is for the students to work through the Quest study Faith at Work. This terrific study is designed for students in grades 7-12. It is an in-depth study of Romans, Galatians, and James in which the students read all of those three books of the Bible as part of the study. :D

Lessons are broken down into daily sections. Questions are provided for the student to help him/her understand what the Bible says, what the passage means, and how to apply the reading to his/her life. :D Map studies are included, so the student can better understand the geography of the lesson. :D The goal of each lesson is for students to think, evaluate, understand, and apply what God is communicating through His Word. :D Notes are provided after each lesson to communicate solid Biblical truths and principles and to help give students a deeper understanding of what they have read. 8) Link to see inside: http://www.explorerbiblestudy.org/asset ... sson_7.pdf

This Bible study comes from the series of Explorer's Bible Studies. :D Here is a link to the history of this company. Link: http://www.explorerbiblestudy.org/history
And here is a link to their statement of faith: http://www.explorerbiblestudy.org/statementoffaith

If you happen to be familiar with any of the other books in this series, it is important to note that we like the Faith at Work study in this series more than the other studies in this series. This is because the writing team who produced this particular study make a terrific duo. Some of the other books in this series occasionally have a flippant feel in some of their multiple choice questions, but this study has a reverent feel throughout. :D It is truly God-honoring and thought-provoking. Any Bible version can be used with the study. :D

Memorization of all of Romans chapter 12 and James chapter 4 will be paired with this study, as students memorize a verse or two each week until both of these chapters are memorized. :D Students will also work on using personal application in their prayers as they pray through the parts of prayer each week (adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication). :D

The music for this year will be from Hymns' for a Kid's Heart Volume II. :D Students will sing along with the beautiful hymns in this volume as part of their Bible quiet time. The musical and vocal arrangements of the hymns done for this hymns' series by Joni Eareckson Tada and Bobbie Wolgemouth are unmatched. We are thrilled to be republishing this book and CD through Heart of Dakota. :D This method of hymn singing fits so well with CM's philosophy of hymn study. :D

We pray the Lord will richly bless your children's Bible Quiet Time as they spend time in God's Word, time on their knees, time hiding God's Word in their hearts, and time singing joyous praises to our Father in heaven! :D For us, this is the most important area of our "school" day, but the wonderful part of HOD is that this isn't the only time kiddos will be in God's Word each day. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

I think one of the best parts of using HOD to teach my children is that *I* get to learn all of this great stuff too!!!
So excited to hear about more Hymn study!! We are absolutely loving Hymns for a Kid's Heart during Bigger and can't wait to get to it again in Missions to Modern Marvels!

Thanks for the feedback, ladies! :D We are very excited about this pick too and really took our time in making the decision for this particular area as it such an important one! We spent time looking, and looking, and looking until we received the Lord's peace on this selection. :D It was important to us that our children be reading through entire books of the Bible at this stage, and we are thrilled that this study includes reading all of Romans, Galations, and James. :D

Combined with our previous years, children up to this point in HOD will have read chronological stories through the Bible in LHTH, in LHFHG, in Preparing Hearts, and again in CTC. Of course, the passages read get longer and include different passages from the Bible the older kiddos get, however the emphasis is on God's Word as one continuous story! :D Students will also have read straight through (and studied as they went) all of Genesis 1-11 (and the rest of Genesis over various years), Esther, Jonah, Ruth, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, Galations, Philippians, and James. :D

Students will have memorized all of the first two chapters of Philippians, memorized part up to all of 9 different Psalms, done a Proverbs study on Godly character traits and memorized Proverbs to go along with them each week, studied Genesis 1-11 deeply (and read the rest of Genesis over various years), done a thorough study of Hebrews 11:1-12:3 and memorized the entire Hebrews chapter 11 and the first 3 verses of chapter 12. :D In MTMM, students will memorize all of Romans chapter 12 and James chapter 4. :D

Also, in our guides from LHFHG through Bigger Hearts (before kiddos start memorizing entire chapters and passages of the Bible rather than verses), the children will have memorized, discussed, and applied 120 verses in just 3 guides! :D They will also have had many, many other devotional discussions pertaining to God's Word, providing opportunities for you to share your faith and beliefs with your children! :D

Even more importantly, the students are also in God's Word daily looking up multiple Scriptures and and connecting God's Word to their work all throughout the day. We desire our kiddos to see that God's Word applies no matter what they are doing! :D I am encouraged by knowing that my children's lives are steeped in the Word of God and that it is an integral part of their daily plan. :D We hope you will be encouraged by this too! :D For an even deeper look at how we integrate God's Word into each guide, you may wish to read this past post. Link: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=8249

We pray your children's time spent in God's Word will be greatly blessed and that it will draw them ever nearer to our Lord and Savior! :D

Blessings,
Carrie
