Storytime in RTR and up-ok to still read aloud?

Post by LynnH » Sat Jan 12, 2013 7:23 pm

It was my understanding that the T/I in this box meant that it could be done as a read aloud by the parent or the student could read it independently whichever you and your dc desired to do. I was sure I had read this somewhere, but now I can't find it. After some comments in the other thread I am wondering if I am mistaken. I have not seen it as a goal to get my ds to read these on his own. He likes me to read them to him and honestly he does better with the deeper thinking questions if I do the reading. I had planned on still reading them next year in MTMM as I see that box is also marked T/I, but if the goal is to shoot for independence in this box then I may need to do some re-evaluating.

Hey, Lynn!

I think this is a great question! I have understood it to mean that if you have multiple children with multiple read alouds each day, then it is an option for you to delegate that box to your child to read on his/her own. Since this is not an issue for you, I would read aloud!!! :D

Happy Reading!!

I still read them aloud. It is my kids favorite part of the day and what they always want to tell their dad about. My freshman had to be assured that it was OK to still like to be read to, but after I told her I like to be read to, she said, "Whew, I really like it, but I was afraid maybe I was too old for that." We are doing REV2REV.

Lynn,

It is definitely o.k. and is a choice we intend for you to make to suit your family. :D I am agreeing that the choice is different for different families. :D

We do choose the Storytime books for their read-aloud quality! I'm so glad that you are getting a chance to enjoy them!

Blessings,
Carrie

We are doing Rev to Rev and I do read the storytime books aloud to my 13 yo ds. His time with me grows short and I am so thankful for the discussions we share over the books - and they are all GREAT books. He gets plenty of reading on his own through the history, extensions & DITHOR. I could not imagine giving this up just yet..but that is me.

I would agree with LynnH. If this is wrong...I have some re-evaluating to do for next year also!! :D
