A New Common Place Book Ea. Yr?

Post by dawntx » Sat Aug 20, 2011 8:53 am

Just want to see how some of you ladies do this! Do you continue to have your dc add on in their Common Place journal each yr. to make one keepsake? (Preparing continue to add on CTC,etc.) Or.... do you purchase a new Common Place Book for each new curriculum?

Thanks!
Dawn :D

I asked a similar question in another thread. I've been trying to figure out exactly what to use for our Common Place book this year and have been wondering how "special" to make it. I'll be anxious to hear the answers. :D

I'm planning on using the same one until it's full, then getting another one. It doesn't make sense to me to have several half full (if that much) books. I'm even going to start Grace with one when she starts Beyond as the place where she copies her poetry.

For common place books, we will use the same one until it is full. My oldest began hers in Preparing and still has it in RtR. She has a leather journal. What we have done with my kids not yet in Preparing is to use ONE bound composition book for BOTH years of poetry copywork in Beyond and Bigger. When they move into Preparing, I will get them nicer journal type books to use as a common place book from there on.

Here's a pic of what we have.

Thanks for the picture Angie! That is really helpful seeing what you use. I was thinking of getting a nicer leather journal, but I wasn't for sure. It really helps seeing what others have done. :D

Mercy,
I found it in my teacher manual introduction. It is under Bible Quiet Time in the "Learning Through History" components. It states that "At the end of each unit, students copy the Scripture memory selection in a common Place Book. A Common Place Book is often a bound composition book with lined pages. It provides a common place to copy anything that is timeless, memorable, or worthy of rereading."HTH :D :D
Oh and I just thought I would say, I took my kiddos to the christian bookstore and to the other bookstore in town and let them each pick a nice leather journal... not ridiculously expensive though(there were some for $60  )! :D I haven't had to decide yet to use a new one each year or not, but I really lean towards just finishing it out (over several years if needed) and then buying another.

The instructions in Creation to Christ say that we need a book for this and book for that and another book for something else (I don't remember what specifically) but we're just going to use a binder with dividers for all the things dd writes down this year.

Mercy, You are very welcome and that is such a wonderful idea to underline the needed materials!! I think I will do that also (it will save so much time in the future and if I need to look back at all) :D !
