Might put pictures in later this weekend. :)
The highlight of the week was that ds of 8 was playing in some Banyan trees with his best friend on a field trip at the local Gardens. :D :D They are both in Bigger with HOD!! My daring ds decided to jump out of the tree and his friend was soon to follow.  They were going to jump and grab a vine just like DANIEL BOONE did (to get away from the Indians). Only the vine was not at all suitable. :o It was way to thin. So ds jumped and got a hold of it and it broke.  PTL for His goodness to our family. He did land on his back, got the wind knocked out of him and was unable to breathe at first. PTL he did not have an asthma attack!!! Or broken bones etc. etc. :D :D
Anyway, we talked about testing vines before jumping and we praised the Lord that it went as good as it did. He is doing great and is able to hop and jump again! :D :D

The other oh so sweet thing was that my ds of 5 doing LHFHG had just learned about the idol falling down and into pieces when the Phillistines put the ark in front of it. At the "Gardens" the had many statutes looking like idols. Ds remembered the story and said the idols had to be knocked down and broken, because they were bad. :D :D They actually did look bad!!!

Here's our week with LHTH http://quietlyrunningtheracehomeschooli ... ew_21.html
My favorite thing about our week with our ds was that I didn't tell him to make a rainbow but just gave him the rainbow colored strips and had him cut them. He put them in the rainbow arc. Love how they make the connections without any prodding from dear mom!

And Unit 5 of PHFHG http://quietlyrunningtheracehomeschooli ... eview.html

Excited to start with DITHOR this week!

Great news... I hs for 4 days this week. Praise God, as I am not consistent enough for my dh liking. The dc had a great time this week and tried hard to learn.
This week we were in LHFHG Unit 11 Day2-5. We learned about Jesus' birth, the shepards, the wiseman and Jesus' family going to Passover. These were not new stories for us, yet were great review. As I had not put away the" fancy" or and the children's creshe. They got to move the people around in both. The animals got woken up and the wise traveled from far away places (they were so excited to move the" fancy" nativaty scene, as this is fobidden). Abbey wants me to leave out the "fancy" scene untill easter so "we can remember He was a baby once, too"
Abbey (5) is doing great in her reading and math and, well, all things. She is loving Danny Meadow Mouse and is finally liking the Rhymes in Motion. When asked where she hides(just like Danny Meadow Mouse Day 4) she said closets, drew a picture of hiding with covers in front of her (a very shaded drawing ) and showed me her hiding skills hourly. She was danny/abbey that day. I am so glad she likes to pretend.
Isaiah (7 1/2) is enjoying the relaxed pace of Lhfhg, almost to much. I have needed to greatly encourage him to push himself in learning from the rt side of Blhfhg. The ideas, especially from the story time make him think, yet I know he is ready for it. He loves our story time book, Sarah Whitcher's story, and with gental guiding is doing well in the instruction from the TM. But how much guiding do I give? I am trying not to lead him, but model and let him tell me the answers. We will "figer" it out. He really struggled on fri, as he received discipline for teasing his sister, would not eat lunch when given and thus did not get lunch. He screamed "in hunger/anger" off and on for 2 hrs untill my dh came home, who finished Isa discipline, and then was allowed a snack. Oh Lord, was that was hard, yet I knew it was right. Isa now eats promptly when called and is trying not to tease. How this applied to HOD? Our Bible verses, time together, and knowing that I am training for Go's work not the world's. BTW, he is well fed everyday and is normally very happy, so he really wasn't" starving. Good week!!

Ladies,

I thoroughly enjoy reading the weekly check-in and feel blessed to have a glimpse into your homeschooling lives! :D Thanks so much for taking time to share with me and with one another. It helps each of us keep on going in the good times and not so good times and reminds us that the Lord is with us daily as we strive to accomplish His will for our families! :D You are each a blessing to me and to the board!

On a sidenote, Gazelle, I think that it is fine to give your little honey as much guidance as needed to model and help him feel successful. He'll eventually start integrating what you model into what he says. :D I'm proud of you for finishing 4 days this week too. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

I am sorry this is late...but like they say, "Better late than never," right? ;)

CREATION TO CHRIST

Ds11 is enjoying his studies in CTC so much. He was thrilled to stop one history book and move to another...stop one Science book and move to another, then another. He has mild ADHD and the constant changing keeps his mind working and he is never bored with HOD.

This week, he began his new Science Book about Plants. He created his new plant book and completed his first entry - the Shepherd's Purse.

Image

He loved his experiment this week too. I wish I had taken pictures of that green flower paper towel once it had soaked up the water to the very tips. It was really neat looking - very green at the bottom and fading green as it reached the top. I used it to explain to ds that this is EXACTLY what fading in watercolor should look like!

Image

He was disappointed with how his painting turned out this week. He is very hard on himself when it comes to art. As a matter of fact, he also thought his soldier turned out wrong. I think he did a wonderful job! I told him so and we talked about giving your best vs always BEING the best. He felt much better and has given me "permission" to share his work on here now. LOL

Image

Image

He is still working very hard on his notebook pages and writing excellent summaries that take a good page to write out (hence the folded notebook paper in the summary box).

Of course, we are now halfway through week 20 (since I am posting this Wed night)...but last week was a good week and we are finally getting back in our groove with school again since Christmas break!

Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory

Ds7 is thriving so much with Beyond. I am so glad I took him back to Little Hearts last year. He is getting so much out of Beyond this year!

We use Explode the Code for Phonics as review (ds reads at about a 6th grade level right now) and he just finished book 6 this week! He was so proud of himself. He is also working through DITHR and he finished reading "My Father's Dragon" last week, so this week he did his project. I chose for him to do the Biblical Character Trait focus and each day we filled out a sheet regarding his "Respect for Authority." I chose to focus just on this one trait because it seems to be one of his struggles right now..especially with obeying his dad and I in certain situations. He really did well with thinking on what he did correctly and what he had done incorrectly in his behavior during the week. We will fill out the reflection sheet next week. I think he has learned a lot from this!

We are reading about the colonial days and this week,we read about a little girl who was left all alone while her mother went to tend to a sick neighbor and her father was away on business in Boston. She cleaned the floor and made a pretty pattern on it with sand. For our History project, we did the same...only, remember, I have a dinosaur crazy child (and I was out of salt, so we used glitter). I am so very glad he isn't doing MY floors! LOL

Image

He has really been enjoying poetry - but he still really dislikes copywork. I think it is because he is not a great speller yet and it takes a long time to look at the sentences letter by letter a lot of times. But, he does copywork each day without too much complaint and I still think he is doing a great job!

Image

One of his favorite times during our day is Read Aloud time. We are nearing the end of "Key to the Treasure" and we have both really loved this book. :) Here is an exercise where I had to write out a summary of what we read that day and he had to fill in the blanks. He loves this!

Image

And this is another activity for the Read Aloud - he had to make and draw a prediction on what would happen next in the mystery. I love his little people. He is such a funny artist. :)

Image

I hope you all are having a blessed week (since it is now into the NEXT week!) and hopefully I can manage an update sooner for this weeks work! Love in Christ!

Rebecca,

You can tell your son that I agree that his soldier turned out well. :D I have a son who is a perfectionist too, and it can be hard when something doesn't turn out to fit his "mental picture". What a good discussion you had with your son about it though! Those are the character-building moments.

Blessings,
Carrie

I told him, "The person who wrote this curriculum that you use...she saw your solider and said you did an awesome job, buddy." He looked like this   8) Thanks Carrie!
