Nov. 28 – Dec. 2
Preparing Hearts for His Glory
Unit 10
Reading about History
Child’s History of the World continues to narratively tell the story of history, and alongside Grandpa’s Box and all of the daily Bible connections, history is told in such a Christ-centered, yet accurate way! Here Emmett is finding Olympia, which was the site of the first Olympics…
Emmett’s written narrations continue to improve with Carrie’s excellent instruction within the guide…
History Project
Making a scytale secret message and sharing it with your big brother, so he can decode it – what more could a young boy want to do for a history project?!?
Language Arts
DITHOR continues to teach Emmett many necessary, solid LA skills that he’d not learn if he was simply reading good books (though that is still a wonderful part of DITHOR too)…
Math Exploration
Emmett is conquering long division quite well with Singapore Math’s instruction!
Science Exploration
Here are Emmett’s comprehension question answers from Day 3…

Julie

Re: Week in Review-Nov. 28-Dec. 5, 2016
Nov. 28 – Dec. 2
Missions to Modern Marvels - Unit 10
Reading about History and Independent History…
Riley has been learning about the Qing Dynasty coming to an end and the revolution in French Indochina and Mexico beginning this week. Our Worthy Words discussion about Porfirio Diaz was very interesting and showed how words within a speech sometimes are just words, and not really what is happening!
President Study/State Study…
Using the state study information he received in the mail, as well as the provided resources in the SD State book, Riley researched our state’s seal and nickname…
Nature Journal/Biblical Self-Image…
William Wordsworth’s poetry was the perfect accompaniment to his nature journal entry this week. I love how the nature journal is visually appealing, but also includes beautiful working, such as that found in class poetry…
Bible Quiet Time…
The Quest inductive Bible Study is systematically moving Riley through landmark Bible verses. I like the questions, the assignments, and especially the prayer journal entries he is making each day as assigned by HOD. The prayer journal is always a way to see into their hearts. Our pastor recently had a heart attack, so I was happy to see he is praying for him and for his health…
Language Arts… Dictation and Grammar…
The passages are getting longer and harder, but he is hanging with it! I am hoping he can finish all of the levels in Grade 8 or 9, but they are tough! We shall see! In grammar, Riley is learning about pronouns and when to use them. Sometimes I have him take brief notes at the top of his notebook to refer to as we do his English orally and as he writes his one section…
Math Exploration…
Stem and leaf plot diagrams were the focus of math this week in Principles of Mathematics Book 2…
