Creation to Christ:
The big event this week for Riley was our feast he put on for Creation to Christ!
He was the star of the show with his shepherd headdress and his Egyptian palace bread. Of course, eating on a blanket on our living room floor was a blast for them too!
Gathering the various things for our feast was fun, and you can see a more modern style of packaging than they had in ancient times for the almonds, yogurt, cheese, etc. on our tray...
Riley made the decision this week to get up early to do more of his school in his room. I think this is largely due to the fact that he rooms with his big brother who gets up early (his choice) to do his MTMM school, and he longs to be JUST LIKE his older brother.
He has been setting his alarm himself, and gathering what he needs to take to his room the night before. I am so proud of him!
He usually gets up early enough to do his CTC Bible Quiet Time, Independent History Study, and sometimes a portion of something else that is meant to be done independently. He always leaves himself 15-20 minutes of free reading time in his bed right before he starts his chores though - this is his favorite way to start his day.
The new Max and Liz book is out, you know, so he cannot WAIT to read in the mornings especially these days!
I LOVE MY start to my day this year. I wake up, do my Bible quiet time, and then I call in the boys one at a time. Wyatt says his Bible Quiet Time verses he is memorizing for me - which I have found is important to do for his retention since he is memorizing huge sections of the Bible. Then, I call in Riley, and I LOVE THIS - he SINGS his Bible verses to me.
CTC uses an awesome music cd that aids in memorization of Phil., and he sings it all with great joy and gusto! I had to laugh the other morning because suddenly Emmett burst through the door and started singing with Riley, then Wyatt came in and joined in, and I couldn't be left out and joined in then too! We are ALL learning Phil. thanks to CTC's neat music cd and Riley's singing it each day!
After that, Emmett comes in and we read his LHFHG Storytime together cuddled up in bed. I love my start to my day this year.
Little by little, Riley is learning to 'shrink in' his cursive. He has been in the habit of s-p-r-e-a-d-i-n-g out his words in cursive. I think he thought it looked like more was written then (this teacher was not fooled, however).
I am thankful for the boxes' dimensions in the CTC notebook helping him to learn to work within a space, though I know it will take some time to learn to do. He is already improving in this area. HIs CTC student notebook already shows improvement from Unit 1, and we are not that far into it.
Riley and I thoroughly enjoyed reading "The Golden Bull" for CTC's Storytime. Though I read it with Wyatt years' back, I still found myself wanting to read more each day, in anticipation of what was going to happen. That is just a great book. We are now reading "Boy of the Pyramids" and enjoying that as well. Riley especially likes the Storytime follow-up of writing 2 questions each on separate slips of paper and then drawing them out to answer. Sometimes he gets mine, sometimes he gets his own; sometimes I get his, and sometimes I get my own. What a creative idea for a follow-up, HOD!
In Christ,
Julie
