This was our second week with Beyond and DH decided it was the week to begin completely renovating the hall bathroom. That's not even the half of it. I made my curriculum choice this year largely on needing something that would be easy for me to do. This week put my choice to the test and it passed - we made it through the week. I know that if I'd chosen any of the other paths I was considering for this year, week 2 would have been an off week.

This week we learned about run-on sentences and I don't know about DS but I really benefited from that lesson. I decided to stick with spelling list 1 and this week DS did the Unit 9 words. I'm really appreciating the way Bible and the Storytime character study flow right on over into our day to day life. I've had the song for this week's verse playing in the background of my mind and I've needed the constant reminder to not grow weary in doing good. I've really, really needed it. I hope the songs get stuck in my child's mind as well. I still hum the tune of the song for Philippians 2:14 (from LHFHG) when the occasion calls for the reminder to do all things without complaining or arguing and I don't want to have to repeat myself or, if in needing to repeat myself, I need help in doing so without my own inward grumble. Some moments I feel like Julia Andrews (Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music .. you get the idea  ). No photos of this week. I was too consumed with managing my stress level to give it much thought.

Hope everyone else had a great week. :)

This was our 2nd week with Bigger at half speed and 1st week with Little Hearts at full speed. The only hitch was my 2 1/2 year-old daughter complaining about not having work. We're starting Little Hands next week for her :)

Melissa, I love your school room and the idea of having all the relevant books for the guide in their own basket. :) I'm going to keep an eye out for one of those baskets.

Thanks! That is our playroom/schoolroom/piano room (I teach piano lessons every afternoon). The baskets were $5 each from a really cool store near us called 5 Below. Everything is $5 or less. Some of it is overpriced, but they do have some neat deals! You can see a blue basket in the background. That has my youngest's books for Little Hands. The girls like it this way too because they can be a bit more independent.

Loved seeing the pics! I am getting ready to start Bigger with my almost 8 year old. I am thinking of starting out at half-speed, can you tell me what that looks like for you? What days do you do things/which subjects. I would love any input as I am usually one who likes to check off all the boxes, but know that my dd is not a "school lover" and would rather start off loving what we are doing rather than trying to cram everything in and overwhelm her. Thanks in advance!

Sarah,

I just saw this today! Sorry I didn't respond sooner :) We are at full speed now, but when we started I did math and grammar full speed. If I had known I would eventually move to full speed I would have done one day and the other on another day. I didn't expect my daughter to be ready for full speed ever this year :) But plans changed! For everything else I did History and Bible during one week, then Science and poetry the next week. Some people do the right side one day, the left side the next. I preferred keeping all the history and science together because I felt like she connected it better.

I did spelling and literature every day and I'm still trying to get story time in (Confession time!). It's hard with all three girls as well as 2 part time jobs to make sure I get storytime in. I really like it and my intentions are to read during lunch or right before bed, but I'm usually either doing some housework or just plain exhausted at those times! Eventually that is my plan though.

Sorry again for the delayed response!
Melissa

This is my first week using HOD- Creation- Christ with my 11 year old daughter-so far so good.
Since she has never done HOD before; it's keeping her guessing. She is finding the work is not overwhelming for her.

I heard about HOD through a workshop on ADD/ADHD and started realizing my daughter falls into this category.
So I am also employing some ADD therapy techniques with our work, and that seems to help her.
We have an interesting schedule, because I teach Co-op classes Middle and High, and Music Classes. So we work around that.

She is drawn in with the living History Books. I am working her towards being more independent with work.
She enjoyed Painting with Poetry. She really enjoyed A Child's Geography.
We are using the Zoology in a Co-op Class, and we are also doing a class on Ancient History- reinforcing HOD topics.

We are using Life of Fred Fractions for Math, and Learning Language Arts Through Literature- Green for Language Arts.

Hopefully I will share some pics soon!
