Re: ? on placement our son has 5 years to graduation

Last fall I place my 14 year old daughter (going into 9th grade) in RtR in everything except math and writing/grammar. I placed her in the writing from CTC and it has worked just fine and she is growing in that area. I also just switched back to R&S grammar and she is going though the level 4 book a...

Re: Need Graduation Celebration Ideas. Anyone like to share

My oldest is graduating this year and she does not want to do anything....so we will not be doing anything. Her grandparents are coming for her dance recital where she as a senior will have a solo that she choreographed herself.

Re: How does it work with 4 different grades?

I agree with the previous posters. Check that placement chart to see where your children place. You might be able to combine 2 of them ( the 8 and 10 year-olds in Bigger or Preparing?? where the younger one places and add extensions for the older one). I tried to combine my boys but they were just t...

That is great! That is something my daughter might like to use also. We will not be starting Rev to Rev until Nov or so.

Re: High School for the special needs child

Thanks Stephanie. Thankfully NY does not have any requirements for Science other than '2 units'. Also we already have the Health book as my oldest used it this year and she thought it was easy (and she has a hard time with science) so I am sure that Melody can handle it when we decide to do it as sh...

High School for the special needs child

I would love to see comments on what you can do for making sure you get everything you need done for a high schooler that has a special learning need or is a slow learner. I see all theses threads on how to beef up RtR, Rev to Rev and MTMM for High School, but what if your child is in one of these g...

Re: Sneak Peek #3: New US2 High School Guide

That wounds wonderful!! Too bad my kids will not be able to complete all the guides by the time they graduate High School. My youngest might but that is it. <sigh> My husband and I recently went though Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University and sure wish we had come on it back when we first got ma...

Re: Anyone homeschool year round?

We plan to school during the summer this year...we have much more left due to all the 'days' we had to take off of HOD due to Dr/ortho appointments and such. We will have 2 or so weeks totally off but they may be different for each of the kids due to going to camp and such. I will let my daughter in...

Re: Using a guide for 2 years?

I have not used a guide for 2 years but I am using LHFHG for my 1st grader and pretty well doing everything in the guide (except some of the thinking games that are too 'young' for him as he is almost 8). We do our own math and phonics programs at this point but will switch over to the reading progr...

Re: Can WWTB be used in Res to Ref for writing?

We did Write with the Best this year in RtR as we did not do CTC last year (started HOD this past fall) and it worked fine, but my daughter is below level in her writing so it was best to start there with her. If your daughter fits perfectly in RtR, I would go with the one listed in RtR.

Re: Starting a bit late....

I understand...it is the reason when I switched over last year I choose not to switch my 12th grader as well. She needed government, economics and health this year. The switched would have been too hard on her. I would call HOD and talk to them to see if it is something she could handle or not. My 1...

Re: New to HOD-Placement for First Grade

My youngest is in 1st grade this year (he is older....will be 8 in April) and LHFHG was a perfect placement for him this year. I started the year off with trying Beyond and he lasted less than a week and was way too frustrated with it as it was too much for him.

Re: Need help deciding on a phonics program

I agree with the above poster...school at age 4 should be optional. I did not do anything at all until my kids were age 5. Both my boys struggled to learn how to read and the older one was finally reading at age 8. The younger one is almost 8 and still has not figured it out. My girls were a bit you...

LHFHG works great for 1st grade!! I would do it with both of them. :)
