Re: Math Question and Emerging Reader Question
Thanks Shannon! I have looked at All About Reading. I've actually spoken to them a couple of times about their program, because I've seriously considered it. We are just a little ahead of where All About Reading is at the moment. They don't have all their levels out yet, and they won't be out until ...

Math Question and Emerging Reader Question
I have a question as to what I should expect from an 8 year getting ready to go into level 2B. We have about a week left of 2A. I love Singapore, because we've never had to drill addition or subtraction math facts. My 8 year old just seem to pick them up naturally using Singapore. Now, we are doing ...

Re: Spelling/dictaion: not sure what to do
I read your post again, and wanted to apologize. I think I said a lot, but never really answered your question. I do think that AAS and phonics is a lot, but not overkill if she truly needs it. I think it might be a problem because the two use different methodologies. It could get confusing for her....

Re: Spelling/dictaion: not sure what to do
I'm not an expert, just a mom trying to find what works best for my dyslexic son. I too have thought about AAS, but I can't help but wonder how all that would fit into our day. I've corresponded with Marie, the creator of AAS, and I know that AAS is an Orton-Gillingham method to teach spelling. I've...

Spelling technique that is working
I just wanted to share a new spelling technique that we've been using, and it has been working with great success. Here is how it works: You give your student a list of spelling words and they either copy them onto notebook paper, or you can write the list on notebook paper for them. First, they beg...

Re: So excited!
That is awesome! My kids happen to see the drawings as I was reading and they were really impressed. I could hear them one at a time say, "Wow, look at the owl", "Look at the bird", "Who did these?" "They are great drawings". She did a great job!!!

Re: Math Woes
The Singapore website has a placement test to help you place your child in the correct guide. Here is the link http://www.singaporemath.com/Placement_s/12.htm I realize every child and family is different, but we absolutely love Singapore here.
Hope that helps,
Tracy

Praising the Lord for progress!
I've mentioned several times that my ds is severely dyslexic. I tried several different reading programs before we got him tested and discovered he has dyslexia. Once we found out, we started him on an Orton-Gillingham program right away. The program was working, but it was very, very slow, and my d...

Re: Math...need help! (Carrie?)
I agree with what everyone has said, give her manipulatives and allow her to use those. We use the MUS blocks, paper clips, cereal, candy  . Whatever strikes my fancy at the time. :) . I did show ds the number line and how to use it, but the manipulatives worked better. My ds used manipulative...

Re: Question about Emerging Reader's reading level
Thanks ladies . That helped a lot. Yes, I think we might as well start Bigger as soon as we finish Beyond, so we can take our time. I'll just follow the ER set they way they are in the guide, and if it gets too difficult, we can substitute.
Thank you,
Tracy Wagner

Question about Emerging Reader's reading level
I'm constantly having to readjust my plans to fit with ds skills level. We've been loving Beyond and are scheduled to finish it around February. I already have Bigger, but I'm hesitant to start it then. I've been trying to hold off on Bigger, so that my ds can do the guide as written. It looks like ...

Praises for the listening skills learned in HOD
My son has dyslexia due to an auditory processing disorder. At 61/2 he was tested and found to be very deficient in auditory processing skills. I tried LHFHG at 5 yrs old, and he just wasn't ready. I tried again at 6 yrs old, and he still struggled with anything read aloud to him without pictures. I...
