Re: Is language needed in Bigger?
If you're already doing your own LA program with her then you will not need to add the R&S 2 book that is recommended in the Bigger guide.

Re: We have a new teacher in our home..
It is amazing what the younger ones learn from their older ones. My youngest (just turned 3yo) was listening in while I was reading Danny Meadow Mouse to my dd (5yo). When I stopped and asked a question, my 3yo answered correctly! She had really been listening & comprehending well! I often joke with...

Re: Cursive
Yes, my kids will learn cursive using HWT. My ds was so proud when he finished his first cursive book a few weeks ago. He prefers to write in cursive and his friends in public school are a bit envious.

Re: Singapore math teaching directions in guide
The teaching activities for 2a & 2b are in the Bigger guide. The activities are 3 days a week. There are not teaching instructions for 3a&3b in Bigger, only the schedule. My ds is doing Bigger and in near the end of 3a. We have been using the textbook prior to him completing pages in his workbook fo...

Re: How do you keep your guides in one piece? So
I've kept mine just as they are since they have a special binding made to lay flat when open. I've seen some people cover the guide covers with clear contact paper. I've considered this but haven't done it yet.

Re: HoD vs MFW
Just my 2 cents about Bigger science & history... My son is 8yo/2nd grade and is in Bigger this year. He LOVES science! I was worried it wouldn't be enough for him this year but it is! He loves it! It is scheduled everyday with experiments twice a week, note booking and reading fun books...not a dry...

Re: Questions about placemnt
My thoughts after reading your post is wait to order until you can see it at your upcoming hs convention. Carrie & Julie are wonderful to talk with and have the best advice. :). That way when you place an order there or later at home you will know exactly what you need. I can't comment about your 11...

Re: Why Do the Crafts? (Activities)
I agree with you, too! My kids remember what they've done/learned and they LOVE looking back through the crafts or the pictures. I blog, too, so we don't keep much past our annual portfolio evaluation unless it's something extra special (like their self-portrait in LHFHG).

Here are our posts from this week...we did Unit 8 in Bigger & LHFHG . I saw a lot of spiritual growth in my son this week directly related to what we studied about our verse each day! And we really enjoyed reading the story of DANIEL today. No SMELL of smoke! Like the praise song says, "Our God is G...

Snow! What fun! We have temps of 65 here today!
I had my kids use their pizza hut book it coupons today for lunch as a fun treat. While we ate lunch we talked about why we have a day added to February every four years.

Transit of Venus 2012 - Bigger Unit 8
We just read about the Transit of Venus this week in Bigger's science unit 8. After reading my son begged me to find out when it happens. Turns out it is going to take place June 5 2012!!! It will happen again in 100 years but not on our lifetime. Just wanted to post this for anyone else who might l...

Re: Bigger and Little Hearts/Beyond schedule
I'm doing Bigger & LHFHG (with 1st grade options) this year and it is going well. :) Our schedule looks like this: My dd begins LHFHG around 9 am and is done in about an hour. If she has an art project that She will spend a lot of time on, we save it for last so she can work independently while my d...
