Re: Reading program

She definitely still needs more phonics. She pretty much does CVC words and do -sh and -th, but she doesn't know much past that. I have most of the ER books and I know she still has a way till she is there.

Re: Reading program

Thanks, I wasn't sure if I should get one of the phonics programs but I guess thinking about it now we could quickly go through until we hit where her ability is now. Thanks :)

Reading program

I was needing a little advice on a reading program. I have finished up with my dd a program (before finding HOD) that teaches reading. It left off with teaching CVC words and hasn't gotten into silent e words. My books that transitioned into silent e accidentally took a swim :) so I am needing to ge...

Re: Bigger Hearts hands on math

My 2nd grader is only about half way through 2A and we are already covering addition/subtraction with borrowing and soon to get into multiplying. I started him in 2A after finishing about half of Teaching Texbooks 3 and don't feel it has been a step back so you could always start with 2A. I did noti...

Re: How do you school when you are sick? Need tips...

I can't give any advice on how to do the guides when sick, but I know I had the worst morning sickness with baby #4 and couldn't function for about 3 months. I used a Robinson Curriculum approach during that time since I couldn't teach so my oldest read on his own for 30 minutes to an hour and then ...

Re: Help me decide between HOD and Sonlight!

I've used Sonlight for P3/4 to Core B. I like the idea of Sonlight and we have had good times snuggling on the couch with the read alouds, but overall I love HOD. This is our first year with HOD and the flow of history makes so much more sense to use. Sonlight has you jumping all over the place and ...

Re: Spelling not sticking

Thank you ladies so much for your responses. DS has been doing mostly list 2. I usually will orally quiz him on list 1 and he usually can do those fine. We have had a couple weeks off due to sickness etc. and we started back on Unit 13 which is review and I am amazed he actually could do the words h...

Spelling not sticking

I'm doing Beyond with my ds. He is having problems with his spelling. We are on week 12 right now and he was doing pretty well with them for the first , but the last few weeks he has really struggled. This week he knew we were doing the U-E combo and I would have them do as the guide said, but he st...

Re: Week 8-27 to 8-31

Here's our week. Ds finished up Unit 8 and some of unit 9 in Beyond and dd did Unit 2 in LHFHG. We only do 4 days a week so we don't do a unit a week :) It was so good to be back in the swing of school too. We went on vacation the previous week and we really enjoyed it, but it is really nice to be b...

Re: How do you keep from oversupplementing?

Thank you Julie, that was so encouraging and gives me something to think about :) We started school back today after being off a week for vacation and it was so wonderful. We just followed the guide pretty much and the kids loved it and so did I :)

Re: How do you keep from oversupplementing?

I think it's hard when we see so much great stuff out there even though my heart is completely with HOD! I try to only supplement with those areas that my daughters show extra interest, like writing stories, or if I see a weak area, like spelling. Other supplemental things I try to save for the sum...

How do you keep from oversupplementing?

I will confess I love curriculum and I always like to add in a little extra. I've got Beyond and LHFHG going, but I keep finding myself wanting to add stuff to it and then overdoing it and then taking the stuff off the shelf and cycling this over. Any advice
