Re: LHFHG with Older Child & 2nd Thoughts on Placement

I started Little hearts about 1/2 way through my dd K year and am finishing it up this year for her first grade year. She is 7 now and for her it is a great fit. The history readings pick up as you go through the guide too. I have done Beyond for 2nd grade with my oldest and we had a great year with...

Re: Supplementing Singapore

I have used the HIG for Singapore and find them helpful in these situations too. Are you also using the activities that are in the HOD guides? 1b can be a bit challenging, we are on it right now with my dd. sometimes slowing down and spending a little extra time really helps. Remember too that 1B is...

Re: question about math placement.

You will have some review I am sure with 1A, but I would probably still start there. Singapore can move fast in spots and the concepts of number bonds will probably be new for them. In 1B the concept of multiplication is introduced and at times it can move a little faster. If you look at the Singapo...

I would vote bigger too and you could add in some of the extensions if you want to add a little to it. I use some of the extension but not all of it for my little guy.

Rod and Staff 2 with 3rd grader?

Last year we did Beyond with about half of R&S 2. This year we are starting Bigger for 3rd grade. Should I go ahead and continue R&S 2 or just go on to 3, Or should we wait for 3 to go with Preparing. I get a little confused with the progression of R&S English :) Thanks.

Re: Switching from Sonlight

I came from SL also. My dd did P4/5 and SL LA K and we went into LHFHG and TRL. We have used SL Core P3/4-Core C and I love the Christian values that are in HOD and how they use a wide variety of types of literature and not just fiction. SL has some great selections, but I did have to do a lot of ed...

Re: Placement Advice for 6 yo turning 7 yo in Oct

I just wanted to encourage you too. My dd will turn 7 in Dec, so just a little younger than yours and we are going a little slower through LHFHG because my ds did Beyond for 2nd grade and for him it was an amazing fit. Don't feel like you have to do Beyond when you start 1st but enjoy the learning p...

Re: Daughter almost 10 yo placing at 1B Singapore Math

I know Beyond has SM 1 and Bigger has SM2 activities in it. I wasn't able to purchase Bigger manual this last year to go along with us but I was able to get the Home Instructor guide which is a great resource and can usually be found for cheap used also. There are tons of activities in it that you c...

Re: To switch...or not to switch...that is the question...

I'm not in the upper guides yet, but switching for us has been amazing. I have the first couple years from another lit based curriculum and was planning on using it with my 2nd child but after doing a few weeks of Beyond with my first I decided to go ahead and switch both kids over. I know I can sti...

Re: Singpore math in Bigger ? facts or no facts ?

I have the HIG for 2A we are finishing up multiplication for 2's and 3's. They don't say you have to have them all down by memory but they should be able to learn most by memory and be able to quickly figure out the ones they don't have by memory. I am doing Beyond with my ds and using SM 2A and B t...

Re: Please explain emerging readers

I found with my son that once he started the Beginning Bible his reading took off and he didn't want to use a phonics program anymore because to him it was just more busy work (we used the ETC books along with it). We dropped the ETC books and he has done great with the readers. We are using DITHOR ...
