Re: Suggestions for K and 3rd grader...combine? run 2 progr
Hi, to put it in perspective the daily time for Bigger is about 2.5 hours and for Little Hearts about 1.5 hours if you are using all the materials HOD recommends, and once you and your children get comfortable with doing school the HOD way. There is a "sticky" thread at the top of this board that's ...

Re: Another high school placement question
Carrie, again, thanks so much for helping to put things into perspective! Taking everything into consideration, Rev to Rev sounds good. I can't help feeling a little sad to miss RtR, but I have another shot with the baby one day

Re: Another high school placement question
Thank you Carrie (and Florence, too :) ) In my state, a diploma requires: 4 units of English, 4 of math including algebra 2 and geometry, 3 of science one of which should be biology and two of which should be lab sciences, 1 world history or geography, 1 US history, 1 US government, 2 physical ed, 1...

Re: Confused about Math with Bigger
For 2A/2B you would not need the textbooks. You can use only the workbooks with Bigger's daily lesson plans for the hands-on activities that take the place of the textbook for 2A/2B. For 3A/3B (and every level above), you do need the textbooks plus workbooks, and there is a schedule in the appendix ...

Re: Another high school placement question
Thanks Carrie. For DITHOR 6/7/8, she will have finished half of it by the end of CTC. WWTB has been her only formal writing program other than the writing she had previously in Bigger and Preparing and writing instruction back in 4th and 5th grades in public school. She does a lot of creative writin...

Another high school placement question
I had this in the middle of another thread, so I figured I'd better star over. My question has to do with the fact that due to many factors, my 8th grader is just finishing up CTC with extensions. She will be 14 this September and a 9th grader. She is a very bright girl and probably capable of much ...

Re: Please help with placement
Based on what you shared I think Little Hearts could work well for both if you didn't get far with it. You can get the Beyond guide for the hands-on math lessons for Singapore 1A/1B (omitting the textbooks and only use the workbooks), and for the Emerging reader schedule-you mentioned you were using...

Re: Need help with older kids
After re-reading your past posts, I would suggest Revival to Revolution after all for both older children if you were to combine. The target age for that guide is ages 11-13, with extensions for ages 14-15. Because your 14 year old is not a strong reader, you could omit the history extensions. To ma...

Re: Need help with older kids
Hi, I would recommend you resist the urge to decide which program to use based on the time period. Even if you repeat an era, you and your children will not find it repetitive. HOD covers history like no other program I have ever tried in over 20 years. Print out two copies of the placement guide, a...

Re: 4 day weeks
Every guide from Preparing Hearts on up has a 4 day week. Little Hands, Little Hearts, Beyond and Bigger are the only guides with 5 day schedules.

Thank you Carrie, for your response. My question has to do with the fact that due to many factors, my 8th grader is just finishing up CTC with extensions. She will be 14 this September. She is a very bright girl and probably capable of much more than what I have required; the slow pace and inconsist...

Re: Help! Copywork not dd's favorite in Beyond
Gigi, may I suggest letting your daughter copy one line or so without interruption, then if there are errors, point them out and just have her copy the same line the next day? Copywork at that age should not be more than 5 minutes a day. Sometimes frequent correction and rewriting at the same sittin...

Re: Sneak Peek #1: New World Geography Guide
Your science choices are exciting :) As life begins to settle into kind of a routine with little baby, I am turning my thoughts to what to do next fall as my second youngest approaches high school age and her sister becomes a sophomore  As always, thank you for your thoughtful selections, and...

This is a chart I found once online that gives average sleep needs by age.
