Using Singapore 1B for 2nd grade

Hello guys, I need some advice. I have two first graders (dd-8 and ds-7) who are on unit 25 of LHFHG and will be continuing through the summer with it to finish it up to do Beyond for 2nd grade. One of the reasons we have taken it this slowly is that they are not understanding the math quickly enoug...

Re: Preread extension books?

This is wonderful to read, Carrie, thank you! It will help so much with next year in Preparing for my 5th grader. I must say, I dropped the ball this year with her with the Bigger extensions. She read them, but I did nothing at all with her beyond having her read them. I'm not sure how I missed that...

Re: Just got home from 1st hs conf. where....

I'm going to our conference here in Virginia next weekend, and I anticipate the same thing! I've just been so happy with our year with HOD! We're moving right along into the next levels of HOD, so I don't really need anything - I've already ordered it all throughout this year! I'm just going for the...

Re: The Singing Bible in LHTH

While I really like the CD, my 2 boys do not seem to have any interest in it. I have them listen anyway, but they are simply giggling and goosing each other, etc., not paying any attention whatsoever to the songs or words. They love music, but don't seem really interested in these particular songs. ...

Re: How do you record and evaluate dc's progress?

Here's what I do, so far. I keep a portfolio for each child to show progress. In it are samples of their art work, their completed Singapore books and other workbooks, and a sample of any other items that are fairly easy to judge improvement between the beginning and end of the year. Like handwritin...

I found and got all the others in this series from paperbackswap.com. If you are not a member, and you have some books to get rid of, this might be a good time to try it! Hope you find them!

Hello "threegreatkids". No advice, I'm watching as well to see what the ladies here say. Just wanted to pop in to say that I will also be using Preparing with a 4th ad 5th grader starting in the Fall. :) We're just finishing up Bigger for them both right now. One with extensions, one without!

Re: Health and PE requirements?

We have used Horizons Health for Grade 3 and Grade 4 this year. We just bought the Student book and I had my kids read a certain number of pages once a week, and then, they went over the comprehension questions after each section aloud with me. It didn't take much time at all. Maybe 20 minutes, once...

History Stories for Children (2nd edition) "matchup"

Good afternoon ladies! I have LHFHG, and we are ding unit 23 this week. My copy of History Stories for Children is the 2nd edition, so the page numbers do not match up to the guide. I have had no trouble figuring it out up til this point, but now I'm not sure. I can't seem to match up 4 stories wort...

Re: Bigger Extension question

My 4th grader is doing Bigger with the Extension pack books. Yes, you are supposed to do the extension pack in addition to the basic program readings of Bigger. The extension pack usually amounts to a History reading each day of two or three pages of CSOA and/or a chapter in one of the living histor...

Re: summer break vs. continuing to school....

I am finding this thread interesting, and a little frustrating too! I would really like to feel "free" from the public school calendar, and take all of May and June off, and part f July. Then, start back in late July through August when it's unbearably hot and humid here in Northern VA. But, we live...

Re: State Study?

We will be doing a Virginia State study using State History from a Christian Perspective by Joy Dean along with the Abeka "My State Notebook". My 2 oldest (then 4th & 5th grades) will be in Preparing, so we will do our state study on our 5th day. The program seems fun, kind of like making a scrapbook.

Re: not sure what to buy for my 6 year old

I agree with Crystal. I would place the younger 2 in Little Hands to Heaven, and your older child in Beyond, if that is where she places best. It is easier to do 2 programs. LHTH only takes about 30-45 minutes! And, like Crystal said, while combining them in Little Hands might work ok for your young...
