Re: Phonics after 100 EZ Lessons

I used 100 EZ Lessons with my oldest and he just went on reading LOTS of books when he was done. We read through a few pages of Phonics Pathways began in the middle/end), but he didn't really like it so we stopped. By then he was reading grade 3-4 level books just a few months after finishing 100 EZ...

Re: Need for memorizing multiplication tables???

YES, it will stick in his mind. :D I just had to reply to your post as I was singing the praises of Singapore NOT drilling math facts into our kids tonight to my husband. My dd is in 1A but she is constantly adding things while playing and when we're shopping. (Look Mommy, there are 3 boxes there an...

Re: Week in Review Jan. 23-27

Hi Ladies! we finished Unit 4 of Bigger & LHFHG the first 3 days of this week. My ds finished Stone Fox in his DITHOR this week, too. I  at the ending. Oh my, it was not what I expected or what my ds predicted to happen. He is enjoying DITHOR (so am I). Here are some pics and stories... ...

Re: HELP next year

This year I have a Kindergartner and 2nd grader. We're doing LHFHG & Bigger. We just returned to HOD before Christmas, so we've only been with it for a few weeks. The first few days took a bit of adjusting but now after a month into it, I feel we have a good routine for us and it's fun having the on...

Re: New to this...when to start LHFHG

This is what we did, maybe it will help you decide? :D I started my son in LHFHG when he was 5 turning 6 within the first month of the school year. It was for his "Kindergarten" year. We just ordered the first grade options - including math since he had done Kindergarten level math already. He read ...

CountryMom - Your son's map looks amazing! My son is in the same unit in Bigger but his map is much more abstract. We had a good week finishing up Unit 3 in LHFHG & Bigger and beginning Unit 4 in LHFHG & Bigger . You can see pictures of our week in the posts below. Monday - Wednesday http://o...

Re: Planning on starting LHFHG but I have a few ???

My son was exactly like your son when we began LHFHG 2 years ago. I didn't want him to begin with Beyond either. Now, looking back (he's in Bigger this year), I'm so glad I didn't put him in Beyond. He wouldn't have been able to do the writing Bigger requires last year. For reading - I had him read ...

Re: Spelling Question

Repeating it over and over may be the way he teaches himself, especially if he is an auditory learner (learns best from listening)?!?!? What would he do with a word like "mat" or "sled" where you can hear all the letter sounds? (The word "are" is tricky since the "e" is silent.) :)

Re: Kids Dictionary

My son is in Bigger (8yo/2nd grade) and he does just fine with a regular "old" dictionary (I think ours is from the 60s - can't pass up those quarter garage sale finds!). He's learned how to use the guide words at the top of the page, figure out what "n." or "adj." means, and see crazy letters that ...

Re: ready for Bigger?

Just wanted to try and encourage you to use two guides since we're using Bigger AND LHFHG at our home now. I tried to combine my two oldest with other curricula in the fall as I knew it wouldn't work to combine them with HOD. It was a mess - too easy for my ds or too hard for my dd. I came to the re...

Re: I think I've made a mistake in my ordering of LHFHG.

Sure! Here's what we use in our home off the top of my head...as well as some activities we do with the items. Think of what he enjoys playing with, characters he likes to watch on shows/movies. I find if I can relate it to something they like, they always enjoy it! :D manipulatives: colored unifix ...
