Where we are at with combining/separating...

We are REALLY thinking that we'll go with separate programs. I never thought I would say that but I think it will actually save me time. For the last 4 years I've read aloud just about everything in science and history. Add to that read-alouds, poetry, composer books, etc.. You start to get the pict...

Bigger and DITHOR

Do most of you use BIgger and DITHOR together? DS will be in 2nd grade and 7yo. He's an excellent reader but I'm wondering if it is necessary to begin a reading program in 2nd grade. He is a reluctant writer. He'll gladly read a Littles book in one day but don't ask him to write about it. He'll talk...

Bigger Science

There are six books listed... *One Small Square: Seashore Science in Colonial America John Audubon *One Small Square: Woods A Pioneer Sampler *Thomas Edison I already own the starred resources. My library has the other resources but we have a maximum of a 6 wk lending period (that's with me renewing...

Re: LHFHG Bible and Storytime question

You don't want to miss out on the Burgess books. It was my son's favorite part of LHFHG. He has since re-read all of them on his own. Even my 3rd grader enjoyed them as read-alouds.

Re: Backing up & Giving Preparing Hearts Another Look

I'm being careful because I really think Carrie has some wonderful points about giving children individual instruction. There is a point where we can force "combining" on a family in such a way that it undermines the very reason for homeschooling. Hubby's in a public school classroom everyday and kn...

Re: Backing up & Giving Preparing Hearts Another Look

I'm actually thinking I'll get Ancients and have Lydia do it, as written. We'll see how Ryan does tagging along. He'll have R&S English 2, Spelling 2, CLE Math 2 and DITHOR also. I worried about it for a minute and almost thought about getting him his own level ($$$$), but I realized that he is only...

Backing up & Giving Preparing Hearts Another Look

Guess I'm chomping at the bit to get into something other than American History (ahghghg). LOL. It was suggested that I take another look at Preparing for use with my rising 2nd and rising 5th grader. We've read all the books except Grandpa's Box & CHOW in the economy package. We read up to chapter ...

Re: Benefits of NOT combining children?

I'm not really interested in using Preparing simply because we've read all of the books listed in the basic package. My DD is going into 5th grade and I'd really like her to finish a history rotation before High School. My plan was to use many of the books listed in HOD Ancients anyway. That is why ...

Benefits of NOT combining children?

I'm new to the HOD forum and seriously considering Ancients. Surprise! I really thought I was going to use something else or pull together my own resources. But HOD Ancients looks wonderful and contains several resources I already own. I used LHFHG with my Kindergarten son in 07/08 and he really lov...
