Re: PLEASE help me understand this RtR experiment!
I realized that the right angle is not to the end of the tray where it is taped but to the side that should be parallel with the tube.

PLEASE help me understand this RtR experiment!
Ok, I'm feeling pretty dense right now, but I can't figure out how to perform this experiment. We are in unit 28 of Res. to Rev. We are studying Issac Newton and working on an experiment that involves rolling a ball down a tube and seeing the change in the path. This is a demonstration of how the ea...

An annoying aspect of a CM education! ;)
My 12 yo ds is severely dyslexic, so I have to read all of the material to him. He's used to this as we've always had to learn this way. We are using Res.to Rev. this year. While I'm reading, he is CONSTANTLY interrupting me with "enlightened thoughts," connections to other books we've read or conce...

Re: Res. to Reformation extension package
I am using that program this year, however, we are not using the extensions. So, I can't answer your question about appropriateness for a 10 yo. However, the read-alouds in the regular program are meant to be read TO the child by the parent. The extensions are to be read BY the child. So, I don't th...

Do you wonder if covering Shakespeare is important?
This year, my ds (12) is doing Res. to Rev. When I was ordering the program last summer, I debated whether to include the optional Shakespeare study. You see, my ds is severely dyslexic and years behind in his reading. I believe that exposure to Shakespeare is important, but I questioned whether tha...

Re: Gap between LHTH & LHFHG.? New 1/2 guide
What I would suggest is to do something else for the 3 yo year and then do LHTH when she is 4. When my dd was 3, I used a free preschool program that I found online. It was very cute as it was centered around a sweet little theme each week and highlighted some nice children's books. Then we did LHTH...

Re: What size of watercolor paper is recommended for CTC?
You didn't ask this, but I thought I'd throw out a suggestion for storage. We used a 12x12 scrapbook from the craft store. we left the white inserts in and just centered the painting in the pocket. It worked great and made a really wonderful way to store and view the finished pieces. Also, we found ...

Re: Order of HOD
Now that I have been through a good number of the guides, I can really see the benefits of HOD's approach to history. Little children relate better to things that are close to them. They've all heard about Columbus and the Pilgrims, etc. so learning about them in a fuller way helps them make connect...

Re: OT: "Fluff" reading
I would allow her to read what is interesting to her when she's on her own time, but I would have conversations about the books she reads. Have her share with you her opinion of whether the book was quality or fluff. I think you will find that the more quality she is exposed to via HOD, the more she...

Re: RTR with a sensitive student
Only you will know this, but maybe "finding it disturbing" isn't necessarily a bad thing. So much in history is disturbing - horribly disturbing. However, it can also be a wonderful opportunity to point a child to the great human need for a Savior, and the wonderful grace that God gives to believers...

The child writes in the student book, so yes, you'll want one for each student. It's a really great program! My ds is really enjoying it.

That's wonderful! My ds is dyslexic so I have to read the history assignments to him. We both had tears streaming down our cheeks when we read that passage. It is incredibly moving.

Re: Placing a child who is "all over the place" skill-wise?
I would strongly encourage NOT to take a year to work heavily on the very things that he most despises, even if it is because of some kind of learning disability. I can't even imagine what that would be like for a child - to start each day staring into, what feels like to a child, an eternity of inc...
