Re: Bigger 4th grader/quest.
You can simply add the extensions, if you find that the guide as written is not challenging enough for your 4th grader (extensions in Bigger are for 4th and 5th graders). However, is Bigger where he placed on the placement chart? http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php If so, he would no...

Re: From MUS to Singapore?
To be sure where to start them when you switch, you can give them the placement test from the Singapore website when you are done with the Math-U-See.

Re: Homeschooling when english is not primary language?
I agree-I am also bilingual, and your little one is definitely still young enough for you to begin speaking to her in both languages-it is the most natural way for her to learn-both parents speaking to her in both languages :) I learned this way, then went to school in regular English-speaking class...

Re: Have Question about CTC A Child's Geography
For the travel logs, the only difference I think is line spacing, and one version I think has room for a drawing. I am just using plain lines, as my dd doesn't like to draw any more than necessary, and already draws plenty for history. I use the printable maps, as directed in the CTC guide-print the...

Re: Home Economics
Honestly, the Heart of Dakota guides feature several edible history projects, so I don't add any other cooking curricula...and I just have my girls help in the kitchen a lot anyhow, expecially with me being 7 months pregnant-they prepare their own breakfast and lunch, and sometimes help with dinner....

Re: Long days...will they get shorter?
On dictation-you do not need another spelling program if you are doing dictation. Dictation should only take about five to ten minutes each day it is scheduled. Have your dd study the passage. You can point out punctuation and difficult words, even write them on a white board, or have her do that. W...

Re: Ladies, I need prayer!
Praying for you-I have posted here many times about issues with one of my teens-we who love the Lord are not immune to these things. We do have to pray fervently for our children, as the enemy seeks to steal, kill and destroy. I also agree, don't even mention sending him back to school, at least not...

Re: Prepping for Rev2Rev's composer study
Oh! Sorry I misunderstood-I wonder if that may just be an issue with your particular printer-in that case, printing single-sided and gluing together may just be your best option.

Re: schedule notebook/planner?
Yes, I would think a planner/schedule would help maintain a smooth flow, and your sanity :D I am only schooling two this year and also have a baby on the way, but I am also taking college courses online (for the next 7 weeks anyhow, and will take 3-4 more classes in the spring to complete my degree)...

Re: Prepping for Rev2Rev's composer study
Yes, this can be tricky if you don't have a printer that does double-sided copying :? Eventually I just figured out which way I had to turn the first copy in order to get the back side to print where I wanted it-but it still takes me a couple of tries sometimes. Sorry I don't have a better answer fo...

Re: Singapore 4 a problems
That is a challenging problem for me :) If this is not your son's first year of Singapore, then I would say that working along with him on the textbook problems is exactly what you should be doing, using them as a teaching tool before having your son work on his workbook pages on his own. Take it sl...

Re: When to start cursive?
If you decide not to do cursive yet, remember you have the option of doing the poetry copywork for continued printing practice. If you decide to start a cursive program, you can drop the copywork :) You can always wait till her third grade year and simply add a cursive program to Preparing, but it's...

Re: Singapore 2A - Adding Vertically ?
I haven't used Singapore in a while, but I seem to remember in 2A that the stress is always on mental math, mentally rearranging larger numbers so they are easier to work with. For example 23 + 19 could be thought of as 22 + 20, or 20 + 10 + 3 + 9, both of which would be easy to add up mentally to 4...

Re: CTC Questions and Need Advice
As far as the independent boxes go, I do not read all of the books. What I do is, if an oral narration is scheduled, I skim the assigned reading and then have dd narrate. If research is assigned, I also skim the section, then ask my daughter to orally answer one of more of the questions listed for t...
