Melanie, Since the stories of David, Joseph, and Ruth were already scheduled to be read from the Bible as you go through the Old-Testament part of history in "Little Hearts..", we didn't double up and read the same story in "History Stories for Children". We do, however, use all of the other stories...

Welcome to the board! I definitely fall into the activities' challenged area too. However, with my 4 boys I found activity necessary to our school-day and to keeping my sanity. The guides help force me to do activities daily that I would otherwise just do without. I know my boys are always grateful ...

Durea, You have received such wonderful counsel from the ladies on this board that I hesitate to add anything more. Thanks so much for sharing your joys and your struggles. We can all certainly relate, and I know it's helpful to feel others are walking the same path you are. I know God uses our stru...

Durea, First I just want to encourage you. Beginning a new program does take time and often we don't hit our stride at our house until we are about a month into a new program. Changes do seem to take awhile to get used to and can cause our school day to run on longer than it should. "Bigger Hearts.....

Thanks so much for asking about this. We don't have a code or button that will automatically link to our website. Usually, people just type our website as a link on their blog, www.heartofdakota.com
Hope that helps!
Blessings on your homeschool journey,
Carrie

We are very excited that the "Family-Time Bible" is back in print. We knew it was going to have a cover redesign and than be re-released. The entire inside of the Bible is exactly the same as the previous "Family-Time Bible". All of the page numbers, artwork, and stories are also identical. I just c...

Poll: For grades 3 on up, do you prefer to have read-alouds
that generally coordinate with the historical time period you are studying or read-alouds that are just considered "good literature" but are not specifically related to history? I am in the process of writing "Preparing Hearts for His Glory" and have been back and forth on this issue quite a few tim...

Yes, "Preparing Hearts for His Glory" will be a 2008 product. We will need to use it next school year with our own 8 turning 9 year old son, so I am very motivated to get it done. It will be primarily for ages 8-10 with extensions for 5th and 6th graders. I'm in the process of writing it now, and it...

Lee Ann, Thanks for sharing about what you're doing with your son. It helps so much. You're right that it might be worth getting the "Bigger Hearts...." guide (if you plan on using the rest of it someday anyway) to have it for the math activities. Also, we found with our own sons that 2A was quite a...

Similar to my3sons, we are using "Bigger Hearts..." this year with my second son and "Little Hearts..." with my just turned 5 year old. We're stretching "Little Hearts..." out over 2 years, due to having a young 5 year old. My oldest, who is in 6th grade, after having my attention for many years, ha...

Lee Ann, It sounds like your kiddos are finding things to enjoy with "Beyond Little Hearts...". We liked making the shields too. My second son especially enjoyed the biography about Helen Keller. It was one of his favorites. He is also loving Benjamin West. We're sad to be finishing it today. You ar...

Apology and explanantion of recent spam problem
We are so sorry for the recent spam problems on the new Heart of Dakota board. We have been in Mexico the last week with limited access to the internet, and so have been unable to work on the problem much until now. We will make sure to personally approve new users to the board prior to posting whic...

Tricia, It?s so nice to "meet" you. I?m glad you are getting a chance to enjoy "Little Hearts" with your kiddos. We are going through it with our third son right now. He asks for it every day. As to your question, you may want to repost it on the main board. I think it has gotten buried here under t...

Welcome to the board Lee Ann. I agree with you about "Baby Island". I loved this book as a child too. I was excited to find it back in print again. The author, Carol Ryrie Brink, is also the author of Caddie Woodlawn. She has such a way with words and can really spin a great story. Blessings, Carrie
