Re: Finish guides in one year??

We do a guide a year here too. I think the placement chart is VERY important, so if placed correctly, a guide a year is very doable as the child naturally progresses through the various skills.

Re: CLEP testing after high school guides-Carrie?

We are finishing MTMM this spring and I plan on having my son take the US History CLEP test this summer. I think he will do fine on the tests after even just these guides. I will repost when he's taken them, but I know more about US History now after HOD than I ever did in college. My DH has a histo...

My son is using that now, but we are not consuming it. His drawings are going in a small sketch book instead.

Re: Help! My daughter read ALL of her science books too soon

My kids have ALL done this to me in one form or another and we just do the books again as the guide states. They get more out of it the way the guide has them narrate, notebook, etc. so even if they know the story or the information, there is different context and application that makes it new again...

Re: Using audio portions of HOD

We download them to our computer and listen to them that way or sometimes the kids will put them on their MP3 players. We are playing them, not sharing them or selling them.

Re: Chemistry question for Carrie

Just wanted to jump in and say because of one of Carrie's old posts I did order Spectrum Chemistry, the new and updated text is done and it shipped quickly. I sent some emails with some questions and got very quick responses from the company. I have a science-minded kid and this looks quite promisin...

I am finally getting a good look at the Art of Argument. Will you be utilizing the DVDs with this program?

Re: If you run multiple guides...

I run 3 guides, and sometimes if the art or other project is going to be fun for everyone to do, or sometimes the amount of time we have for that day/afternoon is not going to be sufficient for the project and I don't want it sloppily done just be be done. We just save it for the evening or maybe da...

Re: Please warn me....

I know exactly what you are asking. One of the reasons I chose HOD is because as I was researching curriculum for my oldest, I spent a spring/summer reading books from a company just as you described and was horrified. I thought surely I had picked up the wrong title/author, etc. I even had a length...

Re: Am I the only one (Little House books)

LOL! I know what you are talking about! My kids listened to Little House audio books long before they ever saw an episode of the show, and they had the opposite reaction... "Mommy, why doesn't this Pa have a beard??" I was kind of glad they had listened to/read the books first!

Re: Research

I have an old Encyclopedia set (my folks bought it new when I was in school) and we used that at first. The computer generated searches was sometimes giving too much information. I liked that they were getting hands-on book search skills and with the encyclopedia we would have less material to wade ...

Re: Questions about Bigger

I am doing Bigger with a 3rd grader, and I honestly can't see her getting as much from it had I done it in 2nd grade. That little bit of maturity has made her narrations and big picture understanding so much deeper. So, yes, restart Bigger! There will be things he remembers, other things that will s...

The Abeka book does not require much writing. It is a great tool. I wouldn't want to mess with the notebooking option. The Abeka book is colorful and all set up.

Re: Heading into convention season, AND...........

My friend and I were JUST talking about this! We've used HOD for a couple years now, but before that I felt so much pressure to find certain bits and pieces to my curriculum. I would labor over conference schedules to decide which sessions I could skip to go to the exhibit hall, or which sessions to...
