Philistine helmet
Help! Our helmet looks more like a jester's hat--all the fringes are falling down around the headband! What did I do wrong??

CTC--Share what you love/don't love
Just curious how others are doing with CTC. What resources are really working/not working. We love the Story of the ANcient World and the Genesis book. Still not sure about the geography. Kids enjoy the history projects. I'm hoping many will share!

Dictation samples in Bigger and CTC
I have the Preparing manual, which has dictation at levels 2, 3, and 4. Does Bigger have level 1, or does HOD start at level 2 for dictation? Also, does CTC have levels 5 and 6? Thanks!

So impressed with the Bible in Preparing
We are on week 33 of Preparing Hearts (almost done!), and I was struck today, again, about how well my kids are learning to apply God's Word to life and their studies. They've been independently reading a book about Albert Einstein (which is really great, by the way), and today read a chapter about ...

Re: All the extras of homeschooling
Don't feel bad about the board games. I don't like it either! :? I do force myself once in a great while, after much begging. LOL! And I do find the games for older kids more tolerable. As far as extra activities, as long as your kids are happy, they'll be fine. Because kids can't run around ...

Re: Questions about read alouds in CTC and economizing?
Hi--I used my library a lot while using Preparing this year. Before I ordered the package, I went to my library's web site and found out which books they carried, or which ones I could get through inter-library loan. Then I only ordered the books the library didn't carry. Then, once I had the guide ...

Re: MFW CTG users
Thank you so much ladies. That's just what I needed to know. I guess I keep thinking combining would be so much easier and unifying, but I really don't want to lose the independence that my kids learned in Preparing this year, and I really want my younger ds to get what he needs. Also, I can see it ...

Re: Not sure if this will be to hard for my 5 year old
We're finishing up Little Hearts with my 7yo (almost 8 now) for first grade, and it was just right for him. Granted, we held him back because he was a little slower in learning than his siblings. I think it's a slightly more advanced K program. For example, one of the history books that you read alo...

MFW CTG users
Hi there, I am strongly leaning toward continuing on with 2 programs in HOD for my 2nd and 5th graders, but I've also been looking at combining them in MFW CtG. Can anyone here who's used CtG give me reasons why they did or didn't like it, and how it worked with younger children specifically? Thank ...

Re: Warning in Preparing!
Am just now getting back to this post and reading replies. I wanted to add a huge thank you to Carrie for all your work on screening the content. I know it is a HUGE job that I can't begin to imagine! I do have one child who is very sensitive, so I appreciate it all the more. I did stop in the middl...

Warning in Preparing!
Someone else may have already caught this, but we read a very gory (and upsetting) chapter in Child's History of the World today, and there was no warning in the guide like there usually is. It was chapter 76, called "Upside Down," about the French Revolution. So, you might just want to make...

CTC questions for Carrie
Hi--I'm looking hard at CTC for my 5th grade twins who are finishing Preparing now. I really like the independence, which will free me up to do school with my first grader. It's hard to see from the first week what the year will look like for them, though. Can you tell me what other kinds of activit...

Re: Best approach to teach worldview
I can't answer your question, because I've never used SL. (My sister, however, has switched to HOD from SL and says "she's never going back," though she enjoyed SL.) I just wanted to chime in because we just read the story about the Portugese attacking the west coast of Africa, so it sounds like we'...

Re: Do your kids enjoy HOD?
My kids love HOD. We did LHFHG and Preparing this year and it was a wonderful year. Before that, we did two years of MFW and also enjoyed it, but not as much as HOD! My sister has used MFW, WP, SL, TOG and has finally found HOD and is HOME. She just said to me today, "Oh, I SO wish I had found this ...
