Re: Will HOD prepare for college and world knowledge?
Yes. I have graduated two kids from high school. Although I have not done anything from HOD yet, I have done the whole high school thing. Anything done consistently during the younger years will prepare them for high school work. The discipline of doing school daily and completing work is probably t...

Re: Brand new, excited, questions!
I would guess that LHFHG with 1st grade options would be a good fit. I would also go with the 1A and 1B math. The K math really just covers the basics and she's probably had that in public K. I'm keeping my 5 year old in LHTH for his K year and not moving up to LHFHG until he is 6. I would suggest g...

Re: How long of a day? Nightmares of Sonlight.
If you can do Preparing with extentions and DITHR and still have time for some extras then the time requirement estimates are probably right. I really think HOD gives a more balanced education on subjects, but all the books listed for the older grades made me nervous. I do not want to get into anoth...

How long of a day? Nightmares of Sonlight.
I plan on using this starting in the fall, and my boys are still young. We'll be using LHTH and I love the way it looks. I'm looking at the older programs though, and I'm getting an uneasy feeling. I used Sonlight, and it takes ALL-DAY-LONG. I read in the catolog that the oldest of levels only takes...

Re: LHTH with K?
Sharon, I just wanted to tell you that my two boys are Ben and Sam also. Sam (Samuel) is the older one, and Ben (Benjamin) is the younger one. Great names and they fit together so well as siblings. :) I'm going to do LHTH for K so both of my boys can do it together. Then for my actual Kindergartner ...

Re: Comparing HOD and MFW
I'm bumping this because it's an excellent comparison of the two programs, and I know a lot of people still compare the two companies.

Re: LHTH question.........
I'm going to do the LHTH with my ds who will be 5 in May. I'm just adding the K options from LHFHG. Then when he is in first grade, we will do LHFHG with the first grade options. So we will be doing the K handwriting while he is 5. I think it will be enough for my ds. I want to give him practice wit...

Re: Truly Excited!
I'll be excited with you. We won't be starting, or even getting anything, until this next fall. So I just keep reading the catolog over and over. LOL! I'm sure your kids will love this way more than lifepacs. Enjoy!

Re: Question about Singapore Math and MUS
Thank you all for responding. I just checked out Cathy Duffy's 100 Top Picks for Homeschool Curriculum at the library, and she has MUS and Singapore both as top picks. :| But she goes on to say that Singapore uses a three step process of understanding that goes from concrete, to pictures, to abstrac...

Question about Singapore Math and MUS
I am going to be starting my ds (almost 5) in LHTH in the fall and adding in the math, handwriting, and thinking skills. He is slightly delayed in understanding abstract concepts, but is great with concrete concepts. I would like to keep things as simple as possible and order everything from HOD, bu...
