Re: OT: URGENT Prayer Request

I have prayed for you and your little one. May God's hand be upon you and protect you through this situation. With His perfect plan, may His Will be done for you, your family and especially the little life inside you. May the doctors and nurses have wisdom. I pray you will have a peace that surpasse...

Re: Which phonics do you suggest for 1st?

[quote="kayben"]Tammy, Thank you so much for the suggestion to Look inside the books. I will definitely do that. So the CD Rom, is it like a computerized version of the book and you can flip through the pages on the computer? Or is there an interactive piece to the CD's? Thanks Rebecca Rebecca, It i...

Re: Which phonics do you suggest for 1st?

My daughter used The Reading Lesson. Now each child is different and so are the parents so some of what you pick I think has to do with each family's style or needs. I was overwhelmed by Reading Made Easy. I went and looked "inside" the book online and there was too little white space on each page f...

Re: Help Me Please!!(I thought I had it all planned out)

I totally understand your sentiment. I changed curriculums 3 times and that includes MFW. I used BJU, then my MFW and I definitely like HOD the best. Always remember that no curriculum is perfect, but what you need is something that is user-friendly, adaptable/flexible without extensive prep time (I...

Re: Make me like Singapore!!! :)

How much of how math is approached is teaching style and how much is the individual child? What do you ladies think? What methods have you used to help your children remember their addition facts and then be able to apply it in a different format? For example: 2+3=___ or 2+___=5 Do you have them use...

Re: Make me like Singapore!!! :)

How much of how addition and subtraction is learned is based on the teaching style and learning style of the teacher and student? Maybe things have changed since I was a student (not so long ago....yeah right!) but I do not recall doing double digits even to count up from there until after mastering...

Re: Reading Level and Reading Comprehension

Tammy,
Thanks for the encouragement. It is nice to know someone else is in the same boat, with the same age children. What state do you live in (no, not the state of confusion...I mean the state of the country...LOL!) Hope you enjoy HS next year.

Reading Level and Reading Comprehension

Okay, Ladies... I need to ask what I should do to help my daughter. She is 6 1/2 yo and we are doing Little Hearts for 1st grade. She is reading chapter books independently, like Little House in the Big Woods and those associated with that series!!!!! BUT when we were reading through her history boo...

Re: When to start LHFHG....

I have a 5 yo who just turned 5 this month. She has the mindset of a preschooler but the intelligence of a kindergartner. So, I got the EarlyBird Mathematics from Singapore, the Bible and Devotional from Little Hands and we sing the songs from Little Hands (and my 2 1/2 yo is joining in...it is so c...

Re: Make me like Singapore!!! :)

I just want to say, I have two children in Singapore. My younger daughter who just turned 5 is doing the 2A/2B (Early bird) for Kindergarten, although she is using LHTH. My older daughter is 6 1/2 in 1st grade and is using LHFHG 1A/1B (which does have a textbook). My younger dd is a whiz at math, my...

Re: Beyond Little Hearts....emergent vs. independent readers

Thank you for correcting my misconceptions but I am so confused. I think I need to see it in front of me or something. Lets just assume I have never done this before......... Little Hearts is for 2-5 yo (pre-K) Little Hands is for 5-7 yo (K, 1, or 2) Beyond Little Hearts 6-8 yo (2, 3) Bigger 7-9 yo ...

Re: Beyond Little Hearts....emergent vs. independent readers

Carrie, Thanks for clarifying. Is there a way I can "test" her reading level for sure, so I know where we are before I head in the wrong direction? If I go directly into Drawn for the 2nd half of next year, won't I miss out on what Beyond has? Then what comes after Drawn? Will I run out of HOD to do...

Re: Can't figure this out...

I agree that talking to him about the story as you go and asking questions along the way may help. I also think that maybe he is not auditory and his mind drifts when he listens. Maybe have him draw a picture about the story as you read it and then stop periodically to talk about what is happening. ...

Re: Christmas Book Ideas

I just bought the Miracle of the Myrrh after reading it last year because I kept thinking about it. Awesome story! You can find it at the following site: http://readandclick.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=16 I have also read the book, The Fourth Wise Man , and that is a great...
