Re: Would love some placement help
Those are the guides I first though of when you described your children in the earlier post. To answer if that is doable with the three guides And stagger dates. I would say a big "yes". You will however want to start your Bigger son at least a couple months before your Beyond daughter. It's a littl...

Re: What happens AFTER Bigger with ERs...
I find that it varies from child to child. We did need to slow down a little in Preparing on the reading. My son is mildly dyslexic, so he will take longer. If your daughter is not, then I think a short time of going slower will be sufficient for her. With my second he will be finishing the ER's in ...

Re: Tips to be more productive with homeschooling
I can certainly understand the overwhelming feeling right now. I am not a morning or a night person. Especially once I found out we were expecting another baby. I just do the best I can with what I have now. Used to I had about an hour before them in the mornings; now I do good to have 20 min. I sti...

Re: time for teacher in Preparing and CtC
I spend about 1.5-2 hours per day with my child in PREPARING. If he is having a bad day; more. My friend has a child in CTC and she only spends 45-60 min with her child. He is very advanced academically, so that may make a difference. I know every child will be a little different, but I hope this gi...

Re: Have to ask....why wait to start LHFHG till 1st gr?
Everyone has a different situation. A friend's son wasn't ready until first grade, while my son was ready at Kindergarten. They are the same age. I plan to start my dd on it next month, very slowly. She is finishing LHTH, but isn't quite ready for LHFHG maturity wise. I don't want to lose what she h...

Re: Help me salvage this school year! (Very long)
I read your post and then read the replies, and most people said what I wanted to say. Personally, I think you are doing very well all things considered. I know what it is like to not be able to clean up the way I like at night (still really sick then) and want to do some cleaning in the mornings. H...

Re: Week in Review: Feb. 24-28
Julie, thanks for your updates. I so enjoy reading about your week and appreciate the details. If only I could still write like that! I do love the sneak peeks ahead. We have had so many things get in the way of our school in the past two weeks. We are behind where I planned, but despite that...

Re: prayers please
You are prayed for. I understand some of it myself. (I am 28 weeks with number 4, and I have been very sick. Nausea at this point is finally minimal, but the dr put me on rest time. Oddly enough, what finally helped me was 10-15 grams of protein at a time with OJ.) It is very hard with children at h...

Re: Bigger or Preparing for 3rd
Have you checked the placement chart? http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php Usually coming from a different curriculum it is best to use the lower guide in order to adjust better to the new. Especially since HOD is so wonderfully different. My oldest did Bigger for 3rd grade and it was...

Re: skip spelling list 2 and move on to dictation?
I "second the motion" to have her try dictation out. It never hurts, and it may end up being the best fit.
Like you said, you can always go back if it doesn't work.

Re: Anyone do LHTH 2 years in a row?
I used it first when my ds was 4 & my dd 2. Afterward she had about a 6 month break while I moved on with brother, then we started LHTH again. We are finishing it up with the older Bible and the R&S workbooks that come before the ones scheduled in LHFHG. We also have reading lessons - only on days w...

Re: Becoming a single mom
I can't help you from a personal perspective, but from a friend from church. In her case she had to work outside the home for a couple years first, but another family graciously offered to homeschool her children (alongside her own)for a very minimal wage. She then was able to come home and work and...

Re: Help with LHTH
Julie gave some great advice. One suggestion I had was to be consistent and make him do daily, like I did my children. But I know some people don't feel the same about preschool years. For me with older children I had to do it, and I find it helps set the pace for their own school years. (That's why...

Re: Finishing Bigger Hearts For His Glory
Last year my oldest ds finished to about unit 30 in Bigger by the end of May. Due to other circumstances we were not able to do the guides over the summer. We picked back up a week early in August and worked until unit 32 straight through. Then bits and pieces of units 33 & 34. My ds worked hard, th...

Re: Help with LHTH
I don't think I can actually help you. I wanted to let you know you were not alone. When my ds was doing it at 4 he HATED the finger plays. We kept doing it- despite that - and when he started LHFHG he thought the rhymes were okay. Although He never got too into them. For both of my children that ha...
