Re: Independant work with more than one student?

We have enjoyed Bigger using extensions and also Preparing. We simply share the guide. The instructions are short and to the point. We never had an issue and we shared the guide between teacher and 3 students.

Re: Anyone use Homeschool Tracker Plus for scheduling, etc.?

Hi Sue! I use this only because the state of PA requires me to hand in a log at the end of the year. So, I really only use the following parts of it: 1. Attendance 2. Children's individual reading lists 3. Resources - I type in every book we "use" for school. It will print out alphabetically under A...

Re: The CDs from LHTH & Beyond

[quote="Cindie2dds"] I haven't played the Beyond CD yet. I didn't want to mess up a lesson plan. Do you all play the CDs whenever and then just cover the lesson in the box and talk about the song that they've heard;quote] Too funny! This was exactly how I started out! I soon found it easiest to just...

Re: Rethinking placement...please help?

Just some thoughts..... We did Preparing this year. My youngest in Preparing is 8. He loved it! We loved it! Not that a girl wouldn't love this, but Preparing was 100% boy friendly & boy motivating! I was thrilled, amazed and thankful with the depth of thought and discussion my boys & I had! All tha...

Re: Question about CM vs. classical

I just wanted to hear from people familiar with HOD what their take on the difference between the 2 types would be. I have never used MFW, but this will be our 3rd year with HOD. If you are familiar with the CM and Classical style I would say that HOD is largely CM, but with a twist of traditional ...

Re: Preparing and A Child's History of the World

I am glad that you asked this question because I too mentally asked it, but went ahead and purchased Preparing as I had already been drawn into HOD via Bigger and experienced how Carrie had used mixtures of secular and biblical resources to teach history. Several chapters in A Child's History of the...

Re: PHFHG with 2 kids..duplicate books?

We are using Preparing with 3 dc and we have used only 1 set of books. They simply work on something else while another child is using "the book". :D

Re: Does HOD have a timeline?

I was wondering the same thing. If I already have the Book of Time can I easily use the HOD dates and suggestions to add to that? Yes, you can! That is exactly what I did with my older boys as we chugged our way through Preparing this year. My middle ds did the timeline as written in Preparing. Hon...

I wish to "second" the Greek Alphabet Code Cracker workbook. My boys really liked this! It's a fun and easy way to learn the Greek Alphabet!

Re: Oops! Read a book for DITHOR that's scheduled in PHFHG

So, you think Castle Diaries and Matilada Bone would make good read-alouds? Great! I will definitely take a look at them. I'm still open to other ideas, in case I can't find those two books easily, or if anyone has another "must read" that isn't covered elsewhere in HOD for this time period. Honest...

Re: Oops! Read a book for DITHOR that's scheduled in PHFHG

My older two also read Door In the Wall recently. So, we decided to read Adam of the Road in it's place and I will have my youngest listen to Door In the Wall on CD from the library. Maybe Adam of the Road would be a good substitute for you too. You may also want to try: Castle Dairies or Matilada B...

Re: Preparing w/ a 7th grader?

Dear Sue, We are currently using Preparing for grade 3,6,7. We do use the extension books. I use a different Math program and so we just go with their needed level. I also added additional Science books ( History of Medicine and World of Biology by Tiner for ds in 7th and the History of Science by B...

Re: History Projects question

You will find that if you are going to dig the stuff out for 2 you might as well get enough out for 5! Also, you will find that not all of the projects will appropriate for a younger person with lesser motor skills or even writing or drawing skills, but be assured that your age appropriate chi...
