Re: Sneak Peek #2: New US2 High School Guide

I LOVE this pick! I'm still giddy from Beautiful Girlhood :) several years back and Stepping Heavenward last year. Honestly, my dd is never as excited as me but I know some day she will understand the value of our conversations. Thank you for "scheduling" this girl-talk! This is what makes homeschoo...

Re: Foerster's Algebra

Wow! That was such helpful advice! Thank you for taking the time to explain how your sons have differed in their math paths and how you've accommodated them both. I feel much better about staying the course with Foerster even if we don't finish Pre-Calc in the end. It is a really incredible Algebra ...

Re: Foerster's Algebra

I guess my concern is mostly that we will just keep getting behind with every subject and not make it to Pre-Calc. I wouldn't be so concerned if I thought the Alg 2/Trig book was mostly Pre-Cal. Does anyone know if there is a Foerster's PreCalc or has anyone used Foersters Alg 2 to know how much mor...

Re: Foerster's Algebra

Reviving this older thread because we are just now half-way through Foerster's and it's nearly March. We are on track to only be done with Chapter 9 of 14 at year's end. ugh. We followed the schedule from MWB which usually scheduled odds but I found that often times my dd needed more time on section...

Re: Concerned about future grades in Singapore Math

I've gone through Singapore twice now. My second is finishing 5A soon. Singapore has a wide spiral. You DO go back and review but it's similar to the way R&S is in terms of that wide spiral (not daily review but monthly or bi-monthly). I do have to remind dd about certain math concepts. Today, for e...

Re: Rod and Staff English help

Rod & Staff 5 if tough. I remember all too well that year. ;-) I can only tell you what we did. We drudged through and eventually it got easier. Every R&S book gets easier towards the end. I almost re-did book 5 until I realized that book 6 was pretty much a review year of 5 plus a little bit more. ...

Re: Foerster's Algebra

We are using Foerster's right now and it is a very well written text where the lessons are extremely well-explained. There is ample review for most students. My daughter actually needs a bit slower pace with the text and so we do odds one day and evens the next. We will take 1.5 years to complete th...

Re: World Geography - Rooted and Grounded

We modify by making this a "together" and oral subject. I have turned this into MY daily Bible study as well. She did it as written on her own for the first 6 weeks and really dreaded "Bible". That absolutely wasn't going to fly at my house. You can hate science or history or math but NOT Bible. :? ...

Re: Question about Rev to Rev maps

I am guessing they are customized because they are done in the exact order that they appear in the guide. I printed them all out at the beginning of the year and stuck them in a file folder in dd's organizer. She simply pulled the next one in line each time a map was called for.

Re: Crazy to switch curriculum in October???

You aren't crazy to switch!! I used MFW years ago, btw, and I know where you are coming from. I know the "right" answer is to see where each child places and then to place them accordingly. The not so right answer is: if you enjoy family style learning and don't necessarily need the hand-holding for...

Re: Sneak Peek #7: New American History Guide

I am looking forward to reading these choices. Wow! I can't even imagine having read all of these stories and novels as a junior in high school! I am pleased that you have chosen to incorporate journaling within this study rather than the typical questions and answers. Many thanks for your careful a...

Re: Maintaining closeness when running multiple guides

That is very helpful, jennymommy. Having some specific book ideas will help me.
Also, thank you for affirming my feelings. ;) Sometimes I feel that I'm just being melancholy as my kids age.

Maintaining closeness when running multiple guides

I am feeling disconnected with my children as I run two different and fairly independent guides. Can you help me to brainstorm ways to reconnect during the day while homeschooling? I often feel less of the homeschooling mother and more of the enforcement police. :) I suppose this is complimentary to...

Re: Trying to decide on curriculum

What about combining your 10 and 8 year old into Preparing (10 y.o. will use Extensions) and placing your 6 year old in Beyond. I think Preparing is the PERFECT curriculum for a first year homeschooler. It's high-interest, it's gentle without lacking depth, and it's a grande overview of world histor...
