Re: Feeling a sigh of relief and now ?? re: PHFHG & BHFHG
Thank you for your response. I thought about that for a nanosecond  however, I just purchased ALL Preparing, REALLY feel that it is the level my 5th grader should be at (really don't want him going "backwards" in his capabilities...really think he could do CtC, but I bought all of Preparing thi...

Feeling a sigh of relief and now ?? re: PHFHG & BHFHG
Okay...I think I have come full circle. I was pretty determined to return to HOD this fall, and continue to combine my children who will be (9 & 11...3rd and 5th grade) in PHFHG. However, I must admit that I had a gnawing feeling inside of me that I just could not make peace with (Holy Spirit...I he...

Re: A little uncertain now
FWIW Stacey...it took us MUCH longer than 45 minutes to do Beyond. We started at 8:30 every morning and we were never done before 11:30 each day. We acted out everything, read everything to it's fullest, stopped along the way to get questions answered, narration done, wiggle worms out, etc. I'm hone...

Re: Hello! Oh, and HELP!
Being that this is your first year with HOD, I would tend to agree about your 11.5 year old daughter. I would especially listen to the wiser HOD moms who have been there done that! My almost 11 year old is going to be doing Preparing this coming year with extensions. He probably could do CtC but eac...

Re: Is there enough writing???
I really think he will get plenty of writing without adding Write with the Best. That would just mess you up for CTC. He can learn those skills for writing paragraphs when he does his written narrations. If you really want to add writing then you could add Igniting Your Writing which is a good prog...

Re: Is there enough writing???
My 5th grader will be doing the extensions for Preparing, I believe I am going to put him in Rod & Staff 4 instead of 5 simply because he has taken a very easy year with grammar by being at a private christian school the past 6 months where they do Abeka Language and I just don't see that being a st...

Is there enough writing???
My boys (9 & 11) will be doing Preparing next year. Other than the poetry and written narrations will they do any more writing?? I'm in Florida and have been hearing all over the news about the writing portion of the fcat and how the kids did so poorly, etc. I looked it up and I'm not sure mine woul...

Re: Please pray we can homeschool again
I understand what you are saying all too well. We too fell into the trap that life/school was "better" elsewhere. Kids have been at private christian school since January. They are both doing academically A-OK, but we've all missed schooling at home. Thus, we are returning in the fall!!!! Sooooo exc...

Re: Is it OK to be 1/2 guide "behind"?
Also I was going to mention that you could easily "catch up" by the time for HS if that's a concern. Simply go a few extra weeks each year and over the course of 6-7 years you'll be easily caught up!!

Re: wwyd - placement ?
I don't know. Hmmm. My son was reading over a 2 level when we did LHFHG and it was hands down my VERY FAVORITE year homeschooling. That guide is so biblically rich and FUN!! There is a BIG jump, in my opinion, to the academic rigor as well I think jumping into Beyond. You know your child best but I ...

Pacing Preparing and doing it with two children
Hi there. I have a few questions about Preparing!! 1. For History narration for example...I'm reading the books aloud to both my boys and they can answer the questions I guess in turn? But am I supposed to get a "group" narration from them combined or take each one alone into a room to get their nar...

Re: O/T hoping for some Godly advice
I see nothing wrong in gently asking the cousin to "knock it off!" :) No one likes to be on the firing line, whether it's for homeschool or work. Would your sister/brother pepper your husband with suspicious questions about his work to catch him underperforming? No? Same for your poor dd. Quite hone...

He will be in Preparing. 2nd grade we did R&S 2 1/2 of 3rd grade we did R&S 3, other 1/2 we did Shurley Grammar 3 4th grade we did 1/2 the year at Classical Conversations doing Essentials in Language (where he did quite well), then he enrolled in private Christian school in January where they do Abe...
