Re: White Boards for Lefties?
If she holds her whiteboard and her hand the same as a righty and touches the whiteboard she will be erasing her writing (and she will be smudging her writing on paper too). Most lefties, in order to not smudge, to slant their letters correctly, and to see what they are writing either wrap their han...

Re: White Boards for Lefties?
I'm a lefty and my hand does not touch the board when I use a whiteboard. All my kids are righties, but I think their hands don't touch the whiteboard either... If you need to touch it to steady your hand you can touch beneath your writing, so that erasing won't be a problem. Of course lefties have ...

Re: Minor problem with RtR unit 3 day 3
I think it is a misprint for Famous Men of the Middle Ages. There is a shield on p. 14 of that book. My daughter drew that shield and never noticed the misprint, I think.

Re: Storytime with kids in multiple books
Yes, a family lunch with Dad is special - I wouldn't want to give that up either. It's a bit of a shame for the youngers to miss out on storytime, though. I had a few other ideas: - continue reading RTR stories to the older two, and then also have a shared storytime for the younger two - either from...

Re: Storytime with kids in multiple books
I eat first at our house! Ha ha! When I've had enough of school for the morning, I send them all out to play. I eat lunch and quietly read a book (right now I'm reading the RTR history books). It is my favorite time of the day! Then I call the kids in and read to them from the Bigger and/or Preparin...

Re: Dictation notebooks
We use a spiral bound notebook and they do grammar in the same notebook. Every day they start a new page (or use the reverse side of a page), so only that day's page is visible while they write.

Re: RTR and Shakespeare or not??
We are using the Shakespeare study, and so far my daughter loves it. We are only on Unit 4, but several days she has eagerly looked over to the rotating box saying, "Is it Shakespeare today?" If it is Shakespeare, she always wants to do it first. She is a big-time book lover in general, though. The ...

Re: current sonlighters considering HOD - placement question
So you would need to get both the economy package and the basic package. For the economy package the only difference between K and 1st is the fine motor skills workbooks. You might choose the K package and have your K child do the workbooks. You could either buy the first grade workbooks as well for...

Re: current sonlighters considering HOD - placement question
I think you're oldest would do best in Preparing as you said she likes writing, but not too much of it. Add DITHOR with which ever book pack she fits in best and probably the 2/3 student book. I think I'd combine your next 2 in LHFHG, adding whichever phonics program you choose for your daughter an...

Re: Reassurance/thoughts on placement
I combined my oldest when she was 7 with her then 5 year old sister in LHFHG and then also in Beyond and Bigger. My 7 year old was very bright and actually placed in Bigger according to the placement chart, but she was very distractible & slow in completing assignments. I loved combining my two girl...

A Great Year with CTC
Thank you HOD for a great year with CTC! My daughter has grown so much this year & the added independence of CTC was just what she needed to thrive! She was able to recite all of Philippians 2 & I never checked up on her all year to see if she was doing that. What a blessing to know that she is inte...

Re: Tears over Draw and Write Through History
Tansy, I realized that it is you who has the wonderful blog with the watercolor tutorials for CTC. I want to thank you so much for these! What a lifesaver these were for doing the paintings this year! In the beginning of the year she was getting frustrated with the watercolor paintings, and I didn't...

Re: BLHFHG Science question
I'm not sure what you should do with Beyond, but why are you using "God's Wonderful Works" with LHFHG? Aren't the science choices for that guide either "The World God Made" or "Our Father's World"? Maybe I'm missing something...

Re: Tears over Draw and Write Through History
I have a tough love approach - I explain that tears are for sad things in life (like losing someone to cancer) or for happy things in life (like for getting married), but they aren't for drawing assignments in history. Time to move on to another subject. I love this too! Lately I have been ignoring...
