Re: Preparing question

Yes. The Basic package only includes the books for the Storytime Section that YOU will read to your child. The Delux Package is all the independent History books your child will need for that box. the extension package is optional if you want your child to read the extensions. It is not required in ...

Re: Preparing question

Yes, there are two sets of books. there are the extension packages for the 5th and 6th graders doing Preparing...these books are read independently and the lessons for these are in the Appendix. These include oral narration, written narration, etc... The Independent History Readings are included for...

Re: Placement/Combining Question

My advice is, if you plan to combine (which I really think you COULD very easily do) is to put your children where your YOUNGER son places. I think the problem with combining is when you place your children where the oldest fits and try to manipulate it for your younger children. This is sometimes e...

Re: Starting Preparing and not finished w Emerging Readers

I haven't done Preparing yet (although my 5th grader is doing it next year) but I've been looking thru the guide and I'm not sure how well Preparing could be done by a child that isn't a fluid reader yet. There is a lot of independent reading they are to do (History and Science), as well as a lot of...

Re: High school with new MTM guide?

I have a VERY long time before HS (well, 4 more years, WAIT...that's not THAT long!? ) But here is a link that might shed some light on what you are asking

Re: Placement questions...

Have you looked at the placement chart VERY carefully for each child? If one is truly falling in at LHFHG and the other is at BHFHG, then I wouldn't meet them in the middle with Beyond. Especially given the scenarios you have mentioned, I would really want to meet them where they are, giving each of...

Torn on if we should do Preparing Extensions??

I've actually purchased all the extension books for my 5th grader and I was surprised at the vary degrees of reading difficulty within all the books. Some books I know he could read with no problem, while others, especially the formal way in which it is written, would be more challenging for him. I'...

Re: LHFHG Burgess Storytime Books

Well...my boys were the same way. They did NOT want me to stop, and I'm of the thought "if a kids is asking for more READING, who am I to challenge THAT!?"

Re: On the verge of deciding to homeschool

I must agree with the PP. My guys are only 21 months apart, we did LHFHG and BLHFHG combined...looking back I can see now how frustrated my younger DH was in trying to keep up with the skill level of his older brother, and me somewhat comparing (unconsciously though) and frustrated with having to nu...

Re: Dictation or AAS???

I've been looking thru Level 3 dictation for this son (think level 2 may be too easy?? not 100% positive) and I "think" I am going to at least start out with level 3. I really like the things I've been reading on the WHOLE picture with dictation, copywork, etc. I like being able to discuss grammar (...

Time per box in BHFHG and PHFHG...

I'm working on our schedule for next year and I'm trying to find any past posts for how much to allot approximately for each box in Preparing and Bigger. I ran a search for "time per box" and it came up with 13,000 possibilities!?

Dictation or AAS???

I need helping seeing the bigger picture. I have read so many rave reviews about studied dictation and I WANT to trust the process, it's definitely the "easier" route to take, however, I am struggling with what to do for my soon to be 3rd grader. My 5th grader is a great speller and I definitely pla...
