Re: New to HOD - placement questions
I know it is nice to run only one level but it sounds like they are a lot different in abilities. It is actually very easy to run multiple levels with HOD and your year will run much more smoothly if you place the kids in the appropriate level. Stephanie already recommended looking at the placement ...

1st year doing HOD as a full time SAHM - what would you do?
I feel like I haven't been on here much because I was working SO many hours these past couple of years. I quit my day job (I still teach accounting and finances classes here and there but that is VERY part time and always at night or online.) Now get to stay home full time with my kiddos. Before qui...

Re: Singapore Home Instructor's Guide
I did buy the guides but I haven't needed them. If you are good at math, then I wouldn't worry about it. But if you are not, the home instructor's guide has a detailed answer key. I found that I haven't needed them but some have found them useful.

Re: MTM Q's on individual state study & science kits
You will need the student workbooks, the TM, and the individual State guide to complete MtMM for your child.
As for the science experiment, each kit is enough for 5 uses. So you will not need to buy multiple sets. One set is enough

Re: Finished Singapore 6A/B. What math next?
My oldest is doing the POM series and really loving it. I know Julie and Carrie both had their boys start POM 2 in MTMM since they finished Singapore 6A/6B in RevtoRev. However, if you check the math without boards website, the same company that does the videos for Foersters, they promote Math Mammo...

Re: Veteran HODer Freaking Out!
Thank you for taking time post all of that Carrie. I really needed to read that. I have just been struggling with my son (as I mentioned at the homeschool convention) and have often pondered if I was doing the right thing - choosing a lit based curriculum rather than traditional since he struggles w...

I'm not sure what others will reply but maybe you could use Persuasion instead? It might take a bit of modifying but it might be fine too.

Re: hobgoblins?
I believe it is talking about their culture and what they believed. In HOD, they do bring to light what others do believe in other levels but it is always an opportunity to compare it to the Bible. For example, in Preparing, they have lesson on what Muslims believe. That is in the book a Child's His...

Re: Singapore vs. Horizons and confusing guide lineup
For the emerging readers, I would have her start reading where she places. So if she is challenged at about mid way through the readers, start there. The DITHOR books are great but they are step up from those emerging readers.

Re: Singapore vs. Horizons
This seems confusing to me. If LHFHG is the program to use for 1st grade in order to reach the final program in 12th grade why is it so tailored to K? And if it's not recommended to start Preparing till 4th, LHFHG again is the one to use for 1st. It feels like there could be one more program put in...

Re: ADHD Help- Preparing AGAIN
I would also consider breaking up the readings if that helps you. I do know that others don't recommend it. I have tried the CM approach where if my kids miss what was said, then it is their fault and they miss out. Uhm....my kids totally don't care if they miss out LOL! For me, with my son who has ...

Re: Help me understand…..
Many have already agreed with you placement wise but I would like to share with you why I we switched from MFW to HOD. Just to give you some back ground, we started off with Abeka and I used that in full with my oldest. Then I found that I didn't like math at all because my dd just didn't get it. I ...

Re: What pen to use for Student Notebook pages
We have used the Frixion erasable pens and have absolutely loved them. My kids really like writing in pen anyway and they use these for all assignments, not just the notebooking pages. They sell them in color as well as the traditional black and blue.

Re: Tell me I'm crazy..
I write all over my guide! I wouldn't worry about it. I don't buy my curriculum to sell it either. I will let others borrow my books but I actually make them buy their own guide and of course any disposable books as well. Don't be timid. Yes, I have seen that there a lot of moms out there who defini...

Re: Which guide(s) to use for 2017-2018?
In reading your post and most of Stephanie's, I would agree with putting the two older kids in CtC. I think that is a great place to start if they are not used to doing much creative writing. You can always add in the extensions for the older child. And it is a very interesting year. For your two gi...
