Re: Anyone with winter woes?

I guess my idea isn't going to work quite like I thought. Some things will have to be after school, while some would be during breaks. But, I am on the right track....I guess. Something will come together. :D Julie got my wheels turning. :D If we get some kind of order to our days it will be ...

Re: Adding more women's history

We are not to that guide yet, so I am not familiar with all that is listed with that guide. But, regarding the title you mentioned, it is only one book listed with many other history books. I would think that there are prominent women mentioned somewhere throughout those books. As my knowledge of th...

Re: What's after phonics?

There is a daily schedule for the ER books in the back of the guide. They do not correspond with the rest of the guide, because those books can be started any time. The schedule is there because Carrie has questions to go with the daily reading. The ER books are meant to be read in the order you see...

Re: Anyone with winter woes?

Julie, I like the idea of putting things on index cards. Since I only have Angie, this gave me an idea. :D I do have a 'routine' for schoolwork, which seems to be working nicely. Angie likes to follow the list I made with the order of subjects. :D I was thinking for non-school time, I could put acti...

Re: What's after phonics?

If your son is finishing TRL, then he would start the ER books. If he would have trouble with them, then you could get some easier books for practice first.

It sounds like your doctor knows nothing about homeschooling.

Re: Reading Struggles and the ER's

My 11yo is dyslexic. Unfortunately, we did not do a phonics program consistently because I didn't know for sure what her problem was untold she was almost 10. It wasn't until we used part of an OG reading program for her dyslexia that I saw significant improvement in her reading. She was by no means...

This is more evidence that the Lord is changing lives through HOD. :D His Word will not return void. Carrie, thank you again for using your guides to help parents 'train up (their) children in the way they should go'. :D

Re: Anyone with winter woes?

Lynn-Thanks for the ideas. Yes, there are activities like you mentioned, but Upwards is too far to drive on a regular basis, and I don't think Karate would be for Angie. I guess the idea of running to things like that on a regularly basis is something we are trying to avoid. We do go to homeschool a...

Re: Tell me more about

Just by browsing ahead, it looks like Bigger does an overview of the states geographically (original colonies, area President Jefferson bought west of the Mississippi, etc). Also, each state is put on an index card with the abbreviation and if desired, the capital. The seven continents are learned, ...

Re: Anyone with winter woes?

Melissa-Four years ago we took a newborn through a local prison ministry. Angie was only seven and did get jealous. But, she loved her and was sad when she left. Now, Angie would love helping to care for a baby. I had thought about babysitting, but with Angie's academic struggles, it would be a big ...

Re: Anyone with winter woes?

Thanks for the encouragement and understanding. :) I am determined to make some kind of change, but one problem can't be solved. No younger siblings for Angie to play with. I guess I'm it. As I was writing this, we got a call saying Angie's parakeet is ready to go! So, now she will have somet...

Re: Anyone with winter woes?

Thanks, Tammy. All that you have said is good, and there are opportunities similar to what you mentioned. However, the skating and certain physical activities are not doable. Angie was born with CP that weakened the one side of her body. So, we don't go skating, which is going on right now. We do ha...

Anyone with winter woes?

I had posted on the weekly check-in last week that my daughter said she loved school. That was huge for all the struggles and frustrations of the past two years. While she is doing school without the moaning like she had been, it seems like I am losing her focus in certain areas. It is appearing she...

As far as I can remember, you do not need to write in TRL.
