Re: Really Need Advice!!
Hi :D I also would not recommend combining. First, they are different...that it's awesome, and God's good plan. Second, there are surely other differences besides academic...male/female, artistic/concrete, etc. They will always be different, and never in life will they be treated as equal/same. I wo...

Re: Rev to Rev is taking way too long
When this happened in our home a while back, I realized that I had my priorities wrong. I was on this homeschool journey because God put me here, and He needed to be the most important thing in my life and my children's lives. That became an area of attack, and sure enough, I let the Bible and quiet...

Re: Recorded Narrations in World History Guide
Hey Lynn, I'm guessing it is so they can hear/see their speaking skills, and maybe improve their oration. It would allow them to see how many times they fill in with "um", "and then", "you know", etc. Hope all is well

Re: I would love to know more about HOD ~ Questions?
Hope, welcome :D I wanted to reply to what I see as the heart of your queries. As for Christ centered- absolutely! Any reviews that indicate otherwise are short sighted and limited in my opinion. My thoughts on the WG guide, having just completed it; yes you do learn about other religions and ideas ...

Nice job I love to use scripture also...it is living and active, and I want my kids to see the Word as the ultimate authority.

Re: Struggling with The Reading Lesson
He may just need a break from phonics, and jump into reading fun, short books. Let him pick some that interest him. We went with some readers in boxed sets at Barnes and Noble...since he chose, he was more inspired. Once he could read those well, he chose another set, then he was ready for the emerg...

Re: Hello, considering CTC
PS: The geography in the 4 guides is very good, covering most of the world through many changes of political boundaries. You might consider the Mapping the World product in the WG guide as an additional resource if you don't think you will be doing that guide...it was excellent

Re: Hello, considering CTC
Oh no :( I'm so sorry to see this. I think maybe things got off track a bit. I'm praying for your encouragement right now. To be in your court, so to speak, I will share that I am sharing homeschooling a repeat 9th grader with his parents. We started in RevtoRev with a bit of government added. The k...

Re: Newbie here with a few questions
Hi "Newbie" I think you could do LHFHG as Stephanie said, letting the younger ds tag along. You may also want to let older ds speed up a bit and finish earlier, starting Beyond when he is finished. And yes, you can repeat a guide...I did just that with the LHFHG guide for my youngest. He loved...

Re: New to HOD
Welcome :D Regardless of which guide seems good, or whether or not to combine kids, could you first let us know where each one fits according to the charts here http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php? Also, it would be helpful to know what has been done up to now for math, grammar, writ...

Re: Alternatives to "Screen Time"
We did "get rid of" tv 1 1/2 years ago by disconnecting the cable. We use the tv for family movies and the Xbox we allowed my oldest to purchase with his own earnings. The real problem has been my weakness in setting limits and enforcing them. My youngest really is addicted to the computer and to ga...

Re: Alternatives to "Screen Time"
This is so timely  We have this dilemma in our home, and for so long I stood firmly against cable and video games. Now they are here, and we have all the issues I was afraid of. We have tried to limit the gaming to 4 hours a week, on Friday and Saturday only, but the addiction behaviors are so...

I'm surprised All three of my boys loved those books, and spent much time looking at the pictures to find the various creatures from the back of the book.
