Re: CTC Science w/ 7th grader

Still hoping for some help with this. I thought Carrie sometimes recommends Biology 101 alongside the science in CTC for older students. Is the Science "as is" in CTC advanced enough for 7th grade?? Thanks for any info.

CTC Science w/ 7th grader

Hi! I have a question about CTC's Science. I am praying about next year and making decisions about what we need to do. My son will be a 7th grader. He loves science and is quite advanced in that area. I am trying to decide, if he does CTC next year, if we should use the Science as is, supplement it ...

Re: I am miserable...

Thank you all so much for your encouragement and feedback. I have decided what I'm going to do. 8) We are going to finish this year out with what we are currently using and next fall we will begin CTC with my then 7th grader and Bigger Hearts with my then 4th grader. Our multi-level curriculum isn't...

Re: I am miserable...

I made that exact same mistake last year. I actually used Bigger with a 5th grader because I just HAD to do American History. In hindsight, I wish I had placed him according to where he fit on the chart in HOD. It would have made a much better year last year. This year, having learned from that mis...

Re: I am miserable...

I realize you may want to combine your 2 dc, and that makes a difference in preference as well. Or maybe your older needs American History? Anyway, just thought I'd throw that out there too. Julie, combining is not a priority for me. It was the desire to cover American History that caused me to loo...

Re: I am miserable...

Julie, thank you! My 6th grader is already using Igniting Your Writing 1 along with Rod & Staff English. I believe I could easily assign him written narrations with the books in Bigger Hearts but I am finding that I'm having a really hard time doing that with the materials we are using now. It reall...

I am miserable...

Well, just thought I'd share that  . We aren't using HOD this year and nothing is going right. I am so ill about it. What I want to do is start Bigger Hearts NOW with my 6th and 3rd graders and beef it up for my 6th grader. It's what I should have done from the beginning of this year. I KNOW i...

Re: The NEXT guide

Thanks everyone! I knew Carrie was still writing and there wouldn't be alot revealed at this point but I had read on another board that two of the spine books had been mentioned here, so I thought there may be a few more tidbits floating around! I'll check back as time progresses! I am anxious to fi...

The NEXT guide

Can anyone point me to any threads that give us a glimpse into what may be in the guide that Carrie is writing for after RtR? I have tried to do a search but couldn't come up with anything. I really need to know if this program will be something that I could do with a 9th grader. I know some areas w...

Re: Something that gave me peace about using HOD this fall

That is so funny! Yes, HOD is a good thing. For me, it's been a very good thing. But, using HOD won't mean that you can't still "do your own thing". It doesn't mean that all of your creative juices will stop flowing!! You will find plenty of space to make it your own and tailor it to your particular...

Re: DITHOR question

2. I want to have her read Little PIlgrim's Progress but we are new so haven't done the 1st section of it. I guess it's OK for me to do the 1st half of the book in the 4/5 reading program? OK, I think I understand now what you are asking. Sorry! I think you are referring to the Boy/Girl book lists....

Re: DITHOR question

Started PHFHG last week but not DITHOR. Planning to add it this Monday. Few questions are: 1. What if my child wants to read more than the allotted amount of pages? Is that OK or should we stick with the breakdown? I let me son read ahead if he wants to, but not too far. I just make that decision a...

Re: Nervous...terrified actually

Hi, Sue!! Hey, I am one of those who have written about our wonderful year with HOD, how my boys have grown so much, how my little guy HATED school a year ago but cried last week when his last day of Little Hearts came. Did I mention that it took us a FULL year (not nine months) to do Little Hearts?...

Re: "Mom, I LOVE this curriculum....

Rebecc, that is SO great!! How wonderful for you! It sure is nice when the children are happy. Both of my sons came to love their HOD programs this year. One of them even cried on his last day of Little Hearts because he was going to miss it!!

Thanks for sharing!
